Hello,

I have just created an account on this forum. Found it really useful up to now.

I am at the managers interview stage (DMI) of my application to be put into WMT trainee train driver talent pool 2021. I was just wondering if anyone knows the next stage(s) after I have 'hopefully' passed this interview?

*I have done all of my tests and structured interview (MMI)* - Passed to enhanced standard.

Also, any tips for the managers interview? :D

Cheers!

Sounds like once you pass the DMI (drivers manager interview) then you will be either offered a start date, of which I think you will need to then attend a medical, or you will be in a talent pool awaiting a start date (but not definite).

Excellent question to ask at your DMI.

Good luck

I'm at this stage with LNER. If I'm successful then it's the tests

If you've done your tests then it's medical and start date after your dmi. With wmt probably a 4 year wait as well.

That doesnt bother me. As long as I hopefully reach the talent pool then I will wait for as long as I need to. I would have done the hard part. Just need to wait for my dream job.

However, I do know that they are taking on a few drivers, not sure the amount. I know this from WMT sources.

Another question, what are the stages and length of training, is it 9 months?
I think its 9 months yes. Not sure about stages though...

With wmt at the moment it will probably take 2 or 3 years for any new starters to qualify. Instructors still have no interest in sharing a cab with trainee.

iv gone with tfw in the end. But I read someone say that the other day as well. I ask, why and how do they get a choice? Why is it not a matter of telling them they will have a trainee? Sort of do what your contracted fo4 or leave sort of mentality? Guess unions?

Good choice, cab sharing at the moment is voluntary so a driver instructor may not feel comfortable sharing a cab with a trainee due to covid. Wmt especially Birmingham depot have so many trainee drivers who have completed the rules and traction and are sat at home waiting for a instructor for just over 1 year now.
