Can anyone explain why some units are being pulled straight from service for scrap, whereas others are languishing at Ely for up to a year before being taken?
I think it depends if Eastleigh has space. They are scrapping the units quite slowly. 317346 and 317652 were withdrawn when there happened to be a gap? Little point in towing them to Ely and then another pair from Ely to Eastliegh. I think this pair is the fastest from service to scrap so far.

I think I'm right in saying that 317345 going for storage today means the only units now left in service are the PRM modified examples and the ex-LO 317/7s?

Yes that's right. Last run for a 317 in as built condition was 2215 Bishop's Stortford to Stratford on Tuesday 2nd worked by 317345.

Yes definitely. There aren't enough 379s to cover everything. I'd expect nine or ten pairs to be diagrammed until 720s start running on those routes.

I am hoping that trains from Tottenham Hale to Stratford will still be 317s in May. I understand that 379s, 745s & 755s usually only go to Liverpool Street but not Stratford.

No 755s to Liverpool Street at the moment, and 379s are appearing more and more frequently on Stratford services (and Hertfords)

Maybe that was on a Bishops Stortford working. I hope the Meridian Water shuttles are still worked by 317s.

The Bishop's Stortford - Stratford and Meridian Water - Stratford trains interwork, so if a unit is doing one it'll be doing the other as well. In my experience, all West Anglia routes/services can have either a 317 or 379 turn up at the moment (with the exception of Stansted Express which is usually solid 745s).

OK thanks. I'm prepared it's pot luck which one turns up first. As the service will be 4 trains an hour when I need it I shouldn't have long to wait for a 317, all being well.

It's hourly Stratford to Stortford at the moment; the vast majority are 317s. From May it goes back to half hourly, assuming they don't cancel some. So they'll require another three pairs of units.

How many 317s remain? Hoping to have one last ride on them next month. :)
Most /3s (I think one or two are gone)
Some /5s (about two thirds)
No /6s
All /8s (*Greater Anglia ones)
Plus some /7s from London Overground

All London Overground /8s are off lease or scrapped

Thanks very much, these in service until May 31st 2021?
I think the 317/7 have a dispensation until the end of May. I don't know of a drop dead date the the 27 PRM modified units although 317344 is already dumped at Harwich Parkeston along with 317714/723.

Ah right, thanks at least they'll be around when I go to Liverpool St next month! :D

515, not 514 ;)

Did 714 even turn a wheel in service since the /7 comeback? Don't recall seeing it about!
You are right, although 317514 is gone and 317515 is still with us so it's still 32 units. I've edited the list in post #354. I'm pretty sure that 317714 has not worked since its return to Ilford. 317344/723 both failed in the snow and are presumably deemed not worth repairing.
