This can be moved if not in correct forum.

Are there any sites in the UK where the line is no longer in use (for whatever reason not just Beeching) or where the line has been closed to all traffic, but the track is still intact?

Note - I’m not an explorer or intending to visit or trespass on any sites, I’m armchair only.

I don't think any Beeching era closures retain any track.

Of later ones, the Amlwch branch in North Wales, which closed to passengers in 1962 and freight in 1993, seems to still have track throughout.

Weymouth Quay tramway retained all track until very recently.

The line from Creswell on the Robin Hood Line to Staveley. There are probably a few former colliery branches too, I believe the former GC Welbeck Colliery branch is still in situ.

The Brownhills branch, between Lichfield City and Angelsea Sidings - last used in 2001 I believe.

The M6 Toll was being built around the time the line stopped being used, and a new bridge was provided where the line crosses the M6 Toll. I don't think it's ever seen any trains.

Probably quite a few. Caldon branch from Stoke. Some that arent connected to the main line anymore such as Sudbrook, Caerwent and Tidenham. Partington? Bescot Round Oak probably has a lot still.

Part of the route between Timperley and Warrington across Latchford Viaduct, which crosses the Manchester Ship Canal has track remaining on the formation, see the following article speculating about the viaduct's future: https://www.warringtonguardian.co.u...tainty-future-disused-railway-line-latchford/. A search shows the track extends across the viaduct, but that further east, the route is without track and is a part of path called teh Trans Pennine Trail...

Is the track still extant on the Blaenau Ffestiniog to Trawsfynydd line? It’s been a few years since I was there!

It must be well over a decade ago now but I was once following a track on a South Wales mountainside when I came to a washed out section where a length of narrow guage track appeared from the ground. It seemed that I had been on a burried narrow guage tramroad probably serving a long departed ironworks.

is Fawkham Junction considered abandoned at this point?
would possibly make it the newist track to be abandoned
that and does any of the farringdon-moorgate section of the city widened line still have track?

As far as I am aware, yes it still is abandoned although was used for storing the older Eurostar stock for a while, I am also sure that the very short Chatham dockyard branch is still intact from the start of the branch at Gillingham Station down as far as the overbridge just before the Asda at The Strand

I think that the two sidings in the scrapyard off the West London Line south-east of Willesden Junction are still there. Up to fairly recently, there would be several large open wagons there, being filled with what looked like shredded scrap steel.

When I last travelled down to East Croydon, there was a siding on the eastern side of the main line that went from Norwood Junction station for a mile or more. It looked like it hadn't been used in a long time. I have an idea that it might be used as a running line if the modernisation of the Selhurst Tangle goes ahead.

The sidings and points in the middle of the Royal Docks in London, probably last used 1970s, were left in situ when the London City airport runway was built. You see them from the plane taxi-ing :

There's the line from Selsdon Junction to the former oil terminal roughly where Bingham Road halt used to be in South London. Hasn't had a train in years but a single track is still there, complete with pots for where the old third rail used to be.

Geoff Marshall covered that on Youtube other day.

The branch from Lugton on the GSW line still has track, no idea when that was last used. Line from Abbeyhill to Powderhall in Edinburgh. What about the branch out to Loanhead, does that still have track?

The branch to the MOD Beith still has Giffen Station hidden in the trees.
The line is no longer connected at Lugton.
Shewalton Moss still had its sidings hiding in the undergrowth when I was last there a couple of years ago.
It's also no longer connected to the network.

Tidenham Tunnel reopens tomorrow (1st April) as a cycleway!

I believe the track has been donated to the Dean Forest Railway. Not sure how far recovery has extended yet.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.

That's a great spot! Under my nose all the time I've been using LCY and I had no idea. Will have to look out for those before my next flight.

The last time I looked the track from Akeman Street to Grendon Underwood was still in place albeit no longer connected to the former GC mainline. The fertilizer trains ended quite some time ago.

There was also some at Wood Wharf (near Canary Wharf), although there has recently been development there so might have gone now

What’s the present status of the top of the Leamside route, it used to go down from Pelaw as far as Wardley opencast?

Also in the northeast, the disused line between Butterwell and Ashington, still had track where it was fenced off at the former A1068 crossing, just a mile or two north west of Ashington.
