Just going past Wimbledon Depot as I type this and there is an absolutely unrecognisable 456 parked with so much multi-coloured graffiti on one carriage you cannot see any of the livery. It looks absolutely wrecked! Does anyone know which one it is, out of curiosity?

456003. It was berthed in the loop at Haslemere at the weekend due to engineering work at Guildford, so it was presumably done Saturday night.

You clearly don't know much about that neck of the woods. There are some big troubles down that "infamous" stretch.

Godalming I knew about, but I hadn't realised it had spread to Haslemere.

It's almost impossible to contain these sorts of issues locally so you will always see several incidents in nearby areas.

Young people from Farncombe/Godalming quite frequently get the train up to Haslemere where they know they will be bothered less by the authorities as currently there are initiatives in those areas to deal with anti-social behaviour.

Ah yes, magical Farncombe, nothing changes. It was a cracking spot for this sort of behaviour when I was a student in Guildford in the late 90s. Surrey isn't as nice as a lot of people would like to think it is.

I really wish they wouldn't refer to these brainless morons as 'artists', vandals and criminals are their proper titles
There's nothing in the definition of those words that makes them mutually exclusive tbh. You can be both.

but art is supposed to be beautiful and creative not a load of ugly scribble of words such as JAY WOZ HERE or whatever is written on that 456. It is not creative or beautiful; it is not art - and vandals who deface trains should not be encouraged.

Agreed in this particular case (and almost all cases which involve defacing of rail equipment tbh), but that's not true of all grafitti, even the vandalistic (is this a word?) ones.

Pleasant to see on a Twitter link (which I haven't got a clue how to add!) that BTP Surrey will be upping there patrols over the increase in graffiti attacks recently.

Under the tweet, click the up arrow and then 'Copy link to tweet'. I'm guessing this is the one you are referring to:

"Officers are keeping busy this weekend by completing graffiti patrols. We have seen a rise in graffiti on trains at this time and therefore will be increasing patrols across the area to combat this. #WEAREBTP"

In both jobs I've had, we've had far more trouble in Surrey / Berkshire than we got in London.

Important to remember that antisocial behaviour isn't always from poor people either. Quite a lot of the troublemaking kids are from decently-off families

And a lot of them aren't kids either, lots of the reports of those caught vandalising with paint cans are in their 20s and 30s.

Seconded!

Very true. I recollect that a prolific Dutch graffiti perpetrator on the Underground turned out to be the son of a QC.
