Supposedly 43012 has derailed on a 2+5 set working 5S85 0212 Tomatin - Perth.

Somewhere south of Kingussie by the looks of that link?

Very unfortunate, looks like the whole HML will be up the spout today with presumably diverts via Aberdeen and Elgin.

No reports of any injuries to train crew; and it’s under investigation by relevant agencies. What else needs to be known?

It was the first 5 car HST undergoing testing. The rear power car *appears* to have derailed on the points. 43012.

Scotrail services currently suspended between Aviemore and Pitlochry.

LNER not operating between Inverness and Edinburgh.

Media seem to have picked up on the story now. A flurry of (rather similar) web articles in the past half hour or so.

RAIB have tweeted this morning to say a Scotrail HST set has derailed on points near Dalwhinnie on the Highland Line.
Any other info?

There is some more information on the BBC news website:

The railway line between Perth and Inverness has been closed after a train derailed during overnight testing.
The incident happened near to Dalwhinnie station in the Highlands at about 03:15.
ScotRail said it was not a passenger service and no-one was injured.
Passengers have been warned to expect disruption to services. Trains to and from Inverness to Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street will terminate at Pitlochry and restart from Aviemore.
A ScotRail spokesperson said: "Services between Perth and Inverness are currently disrupted. There will be replacement bus services for those making essential journeys.
"Customers should check our website, app and social media channels for the latest arrangements before they travel."

The photo shows damage to the track caused by the derailed train passing over it. Nothing more.

I don't see a landslip but perhaps I'm missing it?
I'm guessing the suggestion of ground movement comes from the fact that it looks like both lines have shifted. Though, it looks like they've moved in opposite directions.

I don't like to speculate and prefer to listen for proper reports.
But. The photo posted by Efini92 is about 200 yards South of the station where Ben Alder Road crosses the line (seen on Googlemaps). The majority of the set which we understand was returning to Perth is clearly on the Northbound line, yet there is severe damage to the Southbound track close to the crossing (presumably caused by the derailed power car) and a noticeable kink in the rail at the crossover points just in view.
Are the lines on the double track section between Blair Athol and Dalwhinnie used occasionally for bi-directional working? Or is the fact that the set is mostly on the Northbound track as unusual as it appears to the layman?

It's as if the wheels were either on the left hand track, or just to the left of each of the rails on the left hand track, dragging the whole track to the right, until they got to the crossing where the crossing boards allowed them to hop over to the right hand side of each of the rails.

No provision for bi-directional working. All plain track apart from an emergency crossover at Dalnacardoch.

I suppose so, I just presumed it splayed out under the movement of the train

Points moving underneath the train meaning the rear was stuck on the opposite track and eventually derailed?

Could be, but we won't know the exact cause and the reasons until the RAIB have conducted their investigation and published their report.
