I have just booked seats from York to London in July
and have been allocated seats in Coach G. I wanted forward airline seats and ideally for both trips on the right hand side. What is not clear on the seating plans is which are the best seats for a decent view. Last time I was stuck in a seat with a very poor view. Could anybody tell me the best seat numbers in Standard class for unrestricted view. I am not sure if I can still swop seats as the allocated seats are not the best. Many thanks.

That probably depends on your definition of unrestricted. With high backed seats I don’t consider such a thing as existing.

Sorry I meant which airline seat is aligned with a full window and not stuck behind a pillar.

If I remember seat 79 is good but is classed a a priority seat , is this reservable ? Answer my own question, no it is not.

I am currently looking at Coach A does anyone know which of these airline seats fully align with a window from numbers 31, 35, 39, 43, 47 & 51.

Help much apprecaited.

For all the faults of Fainsa Sophias, they are quite low-back for modern seats.
and indeed there is a great deal of space between your seat and the one in front, meaning there will likely be some window view wherever you sit, particularly as the seats at coach ends with no view are now luggage storage.

There is a pdf of seating that was posted on the Do they know website a while ago but that only shows the ends where there are numerous windowless seats on the IET's. The LNER one isn't much use at all. I find it best to avoid the ends for this reason. The aps on trainsplit might be helpful as there is a new seating plan part but I don't know if it is any good.

Those windowless seats are now luggage racks

Standard coaches B C H & J have the dreaded pillar in airline seats 11-14 and 75-78. Avoid those.
I can’t comment on seating in standard coaches A & G, sorry. G has the cafe/A disabled toilet.

Thank you for the replies so far. Is anybody familiar with Coach A and can tell which of the airline seats in my earlier post is best aligned to a window. Thanks again.

This may not be 100% correct as it’s just based on a photo I have but hopefully it’s of some use:

For Coach A only:
Good Window View:
35, 43
OK Window View:
31, 39, 51
Poor Window View:
49

There are some seats with no window view at all, I once got caught out.... I can’t remember which coach or seat it was though so not much use to the OP!

From memory: the tables line up with windows, so seats 43 and 46 in G should too. It also depends on the direction of travel; those two seats face different directions, for example.

49 is an aisle seat in Coach A, isn't it? At least, it on of the pdf I downloaded from the LNER site a while ago. Not so much "poor" as "no" view ;)

Oops. Looks like I meant to say 47 checking the seating plan... Thanks for letting me know.

I checked on 9 car 801212 tonight for the terrible airline seat numbers with pillars. For my benefit in booking in future as well.

Coach A 7-10, 47-50
Coach G 1-2, 11-14, 31-34, 59-62
Coaches B C H J 11-14, 39-42, 75-78

Brilliant, thank you so much.Until you are on the train it is very hard to see which seats align with windows on the online seating plans. It looks like I have moved to seats which are OK.
