Anybody know what is happening to the Curzon Street Victorian Roundhouse foundations that were uncovered next to the line into New Street?

Pre-pandemic I greatly enjoyed watching it being slowly uncovered, and perhaps somewhat naively assumed it was there to stay. But travelling this week it seems to be being built over, or at least is no longer visible from the train.

I realise that things are often uncovered on building sites only to be buried again. Is that the case here?

Given it's location I would expect it to be consumed by the building, yes. It will be thoroughly documented with plans, surveys, photos and the like so at least the records will show it. If the platforms go over the site it'd be nice if they put some snazzy paving in to show the turntable or similar, but I suspect the roundhouse will be under track rather than the station itself.

Interestingly - this is the page that covers it, but no doubt they have done extensive work so must have produced a detailed (ie at least to academic standard I expect) report etc, this is a simple short general public access sort of summary - which doesn't really touch on what happens in the end...

I suspect extensively documented, measured and recorded plus photos, digital scans etc, then buried again....

Bit more on their general approach in this report

and a bit more generally here

As with many other historical buildings that are uncovered as part of redevelopment schemes it has been recorded, documented and is being reburied in such a way as to preserve it for future generations. I've seen them placing concrete blocks around parts of the walls and then covering it over with sand. I expect that any part of the new station building that is placed over the top will be designed in such a way that it does not disturb the remains of the roundhouse building.

I suspect it will just be underneath a building, it is in the wrong place to be covered by track work (which even then would be quite a way above it)

There's a couple of buildings in York that have been discovered during excavation works, examined and then recovered. A principal example is Yorvik, which is underneath a modern shopping development ... and very well worth a visit if you haven't been.
