Rail Medical for Station Assistant

Hey everyone
I was hoping if anyone could help me with an issue I’m experiencing. I’ve recently just completed a safety critical medical for a station assistant and was told I passed everything, but because I mentioned being Autistic, I was told that someone is now going to phone to talk about my Autism, before I can officially be cleared as medically fit.

Does anyone know what this could mean? I’m suppose to be starting in two weeks and I’m now worrying that it’s going to fail me. I’m not taking any medication for it and have never taken medication for it. It never affects me the same way it did as a child either. Plus, I’m more than capable of working, as I’ve shown in my previous employments. But I’m just worried that because it’s a safety critical role, the nurse may say I can’t do it.

Am I just over worrying for nothing?

It will more than likely be fine. They're extra thorough with these sorts of things - for example, I suffer from severe depression and other mental health issues, and had to get extended checks and letters from my GP to support being passed. It extended the whole process by a few weeks and added quite a bit of cost, but they then were happy to pass me as fit to work with flying colors.

It's all just a precaution to ensure that any and all things which may be important have been considered and explored. Better to check and not find anything, than to assume and you come to harm that could have easily been prevented.

Do not worry. Autism is not an unusual trait amongst railway staff. They will want to talk things through with you just to confirm that the role you will be doing will be suited to you and they aren't going to put you in a position that will cause you harm or distress - they have a duty of care towards you. They'll have seen that they like you during your interviews and assessment process.

That’s what I keep telling myself, there will be plenty of other rail staff with Autism, but I’m still worrying about it as I really want this job

I didn't work for a TOC, I worked for an industry supplier/subcontractor, but was required to hold PTS/DTS/etc as we worked trackside and in yards/depots.
