I have tried to buy tickets from them recently. Gone through the usual process, but when it comes to payment I get the message "cannot take your payment right now". This has happened the last 3 times. Fortunately I have been able to use Paypal. Has anyone else had the same issue lately or is it just me??

Not quite an answer to the question you've asked, but if you are paying fees to book tickets through The Trainline, maybe now's the time to consider using an alternative ticketing retailer.

There's no fees when buying tickets on the day of travel. They have a really nice app that is easy to use, has split ticketing and is a well known brand.

Really don't get the hatred with the Trainline nowadays

It’s driven by the fact that they have, for many years, grossly misled passengers into thinking that booking through them will be cheaper than booking through train companies by making non-like for like comparisons, whereas in fact it is for the most part more expensive and at best the same price.

Also now, I'm finding their app is actively misleading customers. Showing the cheapest fare by default but without warning its an advance ticket and thus showing trains as sold out by default when those advances have all gone. This leads customers to thinking that the cheapest fare is permitted to be used on any train. Their customer service department is misleading customers too by stating that those cheapest advance fares are fine to travel earlier/later on too. Finding flexible tickets is very easily over looked.
Then their timetables are not up to date, selling tickets for trains that haven't existed for ages. Though at least they do send an email stating that the TOC has cancelled their train (even when it was never running in the first place) if you've booked on one.

They are reasonably fast at importing updated timetable data, so whatever they are showing is usually just what is in the industry systems. Many Covid timetables are being implemented as an overlay to the normal timetable, which is done week by week.

So if the week you're looking at hasn't been processed yet, you will still see the normal timetable (which may be completely different to what will run). But this is not a Trainline specific issue.
