Does anyone know if the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Carstairs will return in full? Can only see 2 or 3 services on this route as opposed to what was the roughly 2 hour frequency pre covid. Thanks in advance!

Not at this stage. The information has been uploaded, and as you say there are only a couple of through trains

Think it will be remaining this way until August at least. Many workplaces in Scotland are going on the assumption that they’ll get back to some office working in September, whilst a backlog of driver training needs to be cleared.

Disappointing that Queen St LL services have remained in this stupid 20/10 minute pattern, why such a huge gap? Seriously, services were every 15 mins for years!

Secondly, this timetable just isn’t as easy to use as before Dec 2020. Less direct trains from Coatbridge-Hamilton (for example), nothing from Central-Milngavie and nothing from Queen St-Yoker.

Is disappointing to see that the Glasgow/Edinburgh to Aberdeen services remain two hourly, and thanks to poor co-ordination, give a 30/90 interval north of Dundee. A consequence of this is that there are now waits of over an hour for certain connections from Glasgow to Inverness at Perth! (Leave Glasgow at 12:39, arrive Perth 13:41 to connect with 14:50 departure)
You also have to wonder why virtually every northbound train on the Inverness route stops at Blair Atholl, but only four do so southbound at 07:12, 14:21, 20:24 and 22:00 - surely something could have been done to improve on this.

Also disappointed that there's no Cathcart Circle services aside from a few morning and evening peaks

One of the disappointing aspects of the Glasgow System the circle services. Though Im not sure how much demand from say Mt Florida to Shawlands or Pollokshaws East.

The Edinburgh to Glasgow via Falkirk High could do being every 15 mins at peak.

When I do a search on National Rail Enquiries it says timetables for Scotrail from the 16th May are yet to be finalised. Perhaps some services may be added at the last minute?

Its disappointing that train times for less than a week away may be wrong. Yes these are unprecedented times but people do need to make plans

Some interesting points from the East Kilbride timetable.

Last trains from Glasgow Central come back. Hourly Monday to Saturday from 1947 to 2247.

Sunday evening has the best evening service of the week but only from Glasgow Central. From East Kilbride the Sunday service finishes after the 1955. Tinetable error?

An express appears at 1633 calling at Clarkston, Busby and Hairmyres. One runs at 1707 with same calling pattern.

Least they have published PDFs this time.

Network Rail had a message on their site earlier in the week saying the e-timetable is being released tomorrow 14th May, so maybe some clarity will prevail over the changes for next week.

The timetable pdfs are on the Scotrail website now.

There are other little cuts not being highlighted of course. Balloch, Springburn via Duke St, Larkhall and Whifflet services all reduced to hourly, at least at some point, in the evening Monday to Saturday. There is also a nice little 30 minute gap in the service eastbound at Glasgow Central Low Level at around 21:30 as both the Whifflet and Larkhall services are missing next to each other...

I have also noticed that there is an additional 1645 Aberdeen to Dundee service (calling at Portlethen, Stonehaven, Laurencekirk, Montrose, Arbroath, Carnoustie, Broughty Ferry and Dundee), which is booked as a HST run. This train then returns to Aberdeen as ECS, arriving at 2034.

Presumably this is to plug the gap between 1600 and 1739 going south; the 1715 Aberdeen to Edinburgh was withdrawn in March last year.
