I'm on the 0549 from London Bridge to Brighton and it was announced at Haywards Heath that the departure time would be revised from 0655 to 0715. Real Time Trains now shows it to be on time, running very early at previous stations.

So when I claim my Delay Repay will they reject it?

You linked the 05:29 instead of the 05:49, but they both have very interesting route times.

But also the 04:36 from Brighton to London had a weird thing with being about half an hour early: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:31786/2021-06-06/detailed
As well as the 01:14 on that route.

Something's gone wrong in the timetable somewhere here.

Were you actually late?

Yes you can claim.

There is a very good chance the claim will be wrongly rejected, in which case you can appeal.

Perhaps you can post the details here, and also post a brief summary and link to this thread from Delay Repay claims rejected when you have an outcome?

Ah yes, there was supposed to be single line working between East Croydon and Coulsdon North Ground Frame. I suspect it got cancelled due to the awful fatality at balcombe yesterday meaning the BML was shut for 3 hours and caused chaos, meaning loads of people were stranded and they needed to get as many people home as possible.

Bit messy apparently

I'm totally confused. It would appear that the 0549 arrived basically 'on time' against its revised schedule that had been uploaded in advance to allow for single line working (that didn't take place). Many schedules are revised for planned engineering work every weekend.

How was the OP 'late'?

I think it was late notice engineering works. A lot of schedules are altered last minute, so appearing trains are on time, but after people have consulted the timetable

It was scheduled to arrive in Brighton at 0717 and it was still scheduled to arrive at 0717 when I got on the train. I even have a booking confirmation that says 0717. I only just bought the ticket as an e-ticket just before I got on the train this morning. I actually arrived at 0736, as stated in the (corrected) link above. It got to Haywards Heath at 0657. Then at about 0705 the On Train Supervisor apologised for the delay and said it would leave at 0715.

If you look at the Realtime bit you can see when the train was roughly scheduled (as advertised when I got on the train) to leave the stations before Haywards Heath. It was running a few minutes "late" by Three Bridges.

Really bizarre. I can only guess that somehow the ‘very short notice’ single line working was arranged during the night; a revised very short notice schedule ‘prepared’ but not loaded; the work immediately cancelled; a shift changeover in control occurred and the fresh controller thought that they were ‘tidying up’.

Don't think the single line working was quite that short notice
The cancelling of it was, more likely than not due to the fatality

Yeah the SLW amendments were done by control, so wouldn't have been in the systems until recently. But the actual SLW had been planned for months.

Basically yeah, officially from what I can see it arrived on time, and inadvertently ran early at some stations en route, but from TRUST it would appear someone made a bit of a hash of the schedules, though I really don't want to speculate on more details without knowing what exactly went on. (I think I can reliably guess what happened, but not really suitable for public consumption.)

To address OP's point, I think he has a claim from what I see, but if it were me I would be prepared for a possible rejection and escalation.
