Hi all,

I've always been curious why the York Scarborough Bridge Jn goes into a single and the immediately into double track again? The only reason I can think of it that it would reduce the amount of points along the track from four to two.

There was a thread a couple of years ago that attempted to explain this:
The general view is it reduces the required S&C quite considerably
