From the outside they look solid but are in fact perforated, so from the inside you can see out perfectly well.
No you can’t.

Arriva tried that when they took over Northern with some 158’s and within a short space of time removed them from the windows due to the sheer amount of complaints from people who couldn’t see properly out of the window. They’re awful.

Out of interest, what was on the vinyls? Just part of the blue swoosh on the livery?

I'm yet to come across any perforated vinyl which looks perfectly transparent from the inside.
I agree it's not perfectly transparent, but I've definitely been on board buses where it was barely noticeable. It tends to work best with light neutral colours.

The trade name is 'Contravision', and I concur with those saying it's utterly hateful.

What it states is "advertising is more important than the passenger", and any bus company that thinks that deserves to fail.

It's one step worse than the practice of advertising cars on the side/back of buses.

I remember when it appeared on Tomorrow’s World as a new invention back in 1986. I only remember as it was the first TV Programme I ever recorded on our first ever family VHS recorder, and thus I watched it several times!

Agreed - Personally I don’t have a problem with it at all. I’ve been on vehicles where I’ve not realised it has been applied.

Having seen the livery in Oban yesterday, I can best describe it as striking which is a euphemism. But each to their own.

Are they all the same scheme? I couldn't if they were all to have a slightly different variation to each or if I'm thinking of TfW Mk4 DVTs

your thinking of the tfw dvts which are getting charity liveries might be worth checking out the tfw livery thread and the tfw mk 4 thread

I was under the impression they'd be in different liveries as well actually....
There were six different livery designs produced (I think I remember posting them on this thread when they first emerged) but the plan was always that they’d be outshopped in one chosen livery out of the six.

Not just me then!

That'll be it then.

Putting them on the class of trains which operate the S&C was a particular act of genius! It seemed to come as a surprise to Northern that people would complain about not being able to see out properly on a route which is advertised for its views. The S&C trust complained a lot too, and Northern eventually backed down and removed the bits over the windows.

It was like looking out through a fog at the best of times, and even more noticeable when it rained (which it does a lot on the S&C) as the droplets got trapped in the holes in the vinyls and made it even more difficult to see out.

If 4 x 153 are available before the timetable restructuring, could the designated services operate as 156+153+153?

I don't suppose there's any chance of a forum member getting pictures?

Oban today.
I also have a video clip at Glencruitten summit but it says that it's too large to process. Advice?

I hadn’t realised they had sent 3 dogboxes out on today’s run, which ones are they?

I’m also surprised they haven’t re-trimmed the seats in the standard Saltire pattern, as they are the same Richmonds fitted to the Corkerhill fleet.
