The winner of the England game gets a much harder reward in the next round, a draw might suit England.

I wonder what happened last time we got a favourable draw in the last-16 of Euro 2016........

Win the group and get home advantage.

ITV4 might just be getting decent audience figures just now South of the Border.

FT: Croatia 3 Scotland 1.

Scotland did play gamely and weren't disgraced but the Croatians were just that bit better and had a far sharper cutting edge up front.

Would the absent Billy Gilmour have made a difference?

For consistency sake I think it would have been nice to have him, and they played well together on Friday but Croatia were all over us, particularly in the second half. I think Scotland lose either way unfortunately.

Ah now it's the serious teams we face... Croatia are a shadow of their 2018 final squad just three years on.

The england game was margianlly better but we are still lacking in verve, pace, directness, incicisve passing and are overly cautious.

A good side will beat us easily

Its always nice winning, but I wish England would score more than one goal in a match for a change

I thought we were positive in the first half, Bukayo Saka was a revelation and Grealish fully justifying his starting position. Second half we reverted to type a bit, but there was little need to press forward and risk being beaten on the counter attack, as Czech Rep have pace but fairly limited quality in through passing. A pretty solid defensive action to shepherd the win.

Obviously we don’t know who we get in the next round yet, but in terms of opponents;
Against France - can see a cagey boring defensive England display, and a couple of French goals.
Against Germany - a more traditional attack/counter-attack display, could go either way.
Against Portugal - similar to Germany, but the Ronaldo factor could decide things.
(It won’t be Hungary.)

Personally I hope we get Portugal or Germany and the opportunity to avenge some old wounds.

It’s a strange one isn’t it?
We’re all probably sitting here thinking about the various different scenarios with the next game, but I just don’t know if it’s possible to call it.
It’s just never relaxing is it?

Betting on an English loss in the round of 16 is almost a sure-fire way of making money. The current England team is very poor and seems incapable of scoring many goals.

No longer here
France will beat England for sure. I’m not certain about Portugal, who rely too heavily on Ronaldo, and Germany are the weakest they’ve been for a long time. It’s been a low quality tournament so far with only Italy looking capable or deserving of winning the whole tournament.

They’ve never got out of a group even when he was playing. Or with Graeme Souness. Or Denis Law. Or…….

You can't rely on 9 or so mediocre players with the odd good one thrown in to make it up to 11. Yes a couple of the current Scotland squad are good (e.g.
Robertson, Gilmour) but they are surrounded by quality players at their clubs.

Agreed. And that was sort of my point: Scotland have had far better teams in the past and got no further than the group stage, even with the names I mentioned or, indeed, the 1967 European Cup winning team.

Kenny Dalglish might have. Even at his current age :E
Did they qualify for the second round of a tournament when he was in his pomp?

(checks notes)

No.

BTW - Gilmour isn't even that good. Nor is McGinn. They are solid. No more. Robertson is the only player of note in the Scotland team. You wont get anywhere with a bang average championship level forward line and a team of chuggers.

and Germany are the weakest they’ve been for a long time.

weak or not they are German and playing at a tournament. They will beat us. Probably on penalties. We wont beat France and i doubt we beat Portugal or Germany.

not sure how Wales get such a cushy number mind!

EDIT: Better news - both England and Wales last 16 games to be shown on BBC! Removes the IT curse

Is it just me, or does anyone else expect the ITV commentator to start singing "The Camptown Races" whenever he mentions the Slovak forward Duda?
