Where is the cheapest place I will get the above from, please. Seem hard to get hold of.

Olivia's Trains has a pair of power cars for £290 - which is anywhere from £10 to £30 more expensive than what they go for/have been going for elsewhere, and is the RRP for the models.
Beware on eBay: prices have soared through lockdown and are rarely representative of the value of the actual model. Seeing as the model's no longer made by Hornby, your best bet is waiting around on eBay.

It's strange really. All the coaches have been released now, but you can't get anything to pull them!

Just looking round they do seem to be thin on the ground! Meanwhile loads of coaches are for sale.

Like Peter said Olivia's Trains and also Rainbow Railways have them at £290 which seem to be the only shops that have them now.

This suggests to me that Hornby should probably start making some more power cars!

Like Peter said Olivia's Trains and also Rainbow Railways have them at £290 which seem to be the only shops that have them now.

And this is probably the case because they're charging the RRP, when many shops sold them for less.

They sold out long ago so would only have the occasional second-hand set.

Hornby have done two runs of the power cars - one years back with slam-door coaches, and more recently another set of power cars and two sets of sliding-door coaches- the coaches left mostly seem to be standard class ones - presumably because people don't mostly want a full 7-car set.

The first set of power cars had the exhaust deflectors. The second set doesn't - this is correct as they were removed from the real power cars in the intervening period.

I was going to ask what exhaust deflectors are but a quick google search finds this thread you made 8.5 years ago on the RMWeb

They weren't part of the original design by the whole fleet had them fitted a few years after they were built. The ex-EMT / EMR VP185 power cars still have them, FGW shortened them as described in that RMWeb posting, and the power cars which remain with them, and with Scotrail, are still like this. All of the other MTU power car operators removed them completely except Grand Central (those power cars went to EMT/EMR and are now with Rail Adventure)
