I am currently engaged on a project involving platforms that are sparsely used and sites like RTT and OTT have contained a wealth of information to assist me in this. Fantastic resouces!

However, whilst the occasional station can have discrepancies in the platform department - which i can generally work around, Skegness has me stumped.
This is because no platform information is either predicted or reported on these sites - or indeed anywhere else i can find.

As far as i can work out Platforms 3 and 4 are the ones generally used from previous posts here, 5 and 6 are available for use but in practise are not used for passenger trains, with 2 and 7 no longer used.

So... can any kind soul advise what the actual platform usage is? Or point me in a direction where this may be available to peruse.

I'm guessing the info must exist as the live departures/arrivals page on the NR webiste does show platform info - but only for the 2 hour window this service covers.
P4 only so far today but i missed the first 2 services and maybe saturday is not the same as weekdays (or sundays) in any event..

Thanks..

Usually, all services use 4, unless there is booked to be more than 1 unit in the station, which usually only happens on a Summer Saturday when the extras run.
When I went on the HST extras last year, the HST went in 4, of the normal services, one used 3 and one used 5, 2 is available, 6 and especially 7 have not been used for years and have the points clamped and the starter signal from 6 has been removed

All good info - thanks.

So its pretty much P4 apart from the 8 summer saturdays which RTT tells me is from 24 July onward this year. 2 services are booked each saturday and these overlap with normal services so opportunities for the obscure platforms do indeed exist. I will have to make the effort to make a visit over the summer. One of the more interesting seaside stations from my (admittedly obscure) perspective...

Its an interesting route, mostly all mechanical East of Sleaford with quite a few manual gated crossings, there seems to be no logic which Platform the Sprinter which follows the first extra is put in, will be 3 or 5 though, as the extra will already be in 4
Also, there is no indication to the driver on approach which Platform the route is set for, just a blanket 10mph past the signal before all the pointwork

Are there not plans to change the Track Work in the Station Area

There are usually several visits by railtours annually too if you include any that start there. That also causes other platforms to be used.

All trains generally use platform 4 at the moment, previously platform 3 was the preferred platform but this changed a few years ago.

Platform 2 can be used during daylight hours only, and platform 5 can be used for trains up to around 6 vehicles in length due to the far end platform surface being unsuitable for passengers. Platform 6 and 7 are out of use and won't ever see a train again.

The only place platforms are usually shown I believe is in the working timetable.

There is also no calling on arm, if you are going in on top of another unit the train is brought to a stand at the inner home which is then slowly pulled off.

RTT platform information for Skegness will never be up to date. In practice what happens is that the signaller decides what platform to use and communicates that to the station staff although in practice unless there's a reason not to it is usually platform 4. The signalling is still block telegraph using absolute block regulations to and from Wainfleet so there are no train describers providing automatic train running information in NR's data feed as you get with more modern systems - the signaller enters arrival and departure times manually using the TRUST programme on a computer.

Skegness platforms aren't even track circuited, only the throat and mainlines on approach.
