Hi Guys and Girls,

Newbie here with a few questions in regards to being a conductor for southern.

Dose anybody here know how rosters work for conductors at selhurst depot ?

And also when you are a new starter how many routes are you made to learn as a conductor at any TOC full stop ? I.e do you learn one route for a while and do that route once you have passed out before then being placed on another route ?

Or do you have to learn all routes before passing out and doing a route on your own ?

Apologies in advance if any of these questions have been answered else where.

If anybody could provide any insight to the above that would be amazing.

:)

That's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' question really. Some depots will only sign one route in total, others you'll sign several out of the total and gain more as you work your way up.

According to my card, I signed 9 routes when I finished my initial route learning. On my course, others signed between 1 and 9.

So basically, depends entirely on the depot and I know nothing about Selhurst

Thanks for the reply.

out of curiosity how do you learn the routes ?

Is it done from physically being on the route from the rear cab or do you learn them from sitting in the carriage ?

May sound like a silly question I know so apologies in advance.

hopefully someone on here from southern is in the know.

Not sure what routes that Selhurst would cover require a Conductor, Uckfield and the West London Line are the only that come to mind.

I'm pretty sure they also sign the Guildford branch, as they work that on a few M-F peak services.
