Good Morning,

I'm taking a trip down to Toton bank this morning and wondered does anyone have a list of all visible locomotives I'll be able to see from there (stored or active), as I'm getting back into the hobby after a substantial break and am starting from scratch.

Many thanks

Simon

I'd have a look at Flickr if I were you, lots of pictures on there usually which may give you an idea of where things are currently, also WNXX if you subscribe which had some pictures yesterday of 60057/70/64 having just reappeared due to tree clearance

Hi Simon,

Im thinking of doing similar next month, how did you get on with you visit? It’s been 20+ years since I last went. Travelling up from Watford to try a bag my last few 60’s etc. Just want to be sure it’s worthwhile!

cheers

I don’t suppose anyone knows the current numbers and positions of the stored class 60s at the rear of the depot? Just a few I couldn’t get yesterday. Trying to work out where 60098 is located. Bit of a long shot I know.

A quick couple of questions if anyone can help please, is it possible to get from Toton bank up onto the bridge on the main A52 road at the end without walking all the way back to the roundabout, and also google maps seems to show a footpath on the opposite side of the depot to the bank which leads up to the fence which looks like some of the 60s in the compound should/could be visible? Just wondering if these are possible as I don't get to visit often.

There is no footpath on the A52 unfortunately... and no way up anyway; see Google Maps and Streetview on the links below.

We Visited a couple of weeks ago and parked on Lock Lane and walked along the the canal before turning left into the nature reserve on the opposite side of the line to Toton Bank (willoughby avenue in hindsight is a closer access point) You can get quite close to the depot fence and there are a number of 60’s visible. If you wade through the long grass there are a few well trodden vantage points.

Thanks for the info. Hoping to give it a try this weekend.

Thanks, shame they don't allow depot visits. Would solve all these problems!!

Whilst I have been rummaging around the nature reserve in the past to get to see a few extra demic 60s, I think there has been so much clearance of greenery that I'm not sure that you woudn't get a better view from the opposite bank now. I was surprised when I went yesterday at just how clear and open it is now ; and the clearance of the old wagons which often obscured the 60 line is most welcome too. There's a long line and a shorter line now. I still can't convince myself to take my life in my hands and walk to the overbridge from the layby on the A52 though.

I've done the walk long the A52 in the evening rush hour and it was fine. It's a very well worn path as you might imagine!

My list from Wed of demic 60s identifiable from the bank was :

In TMD area
600 04 / 08 / 09 / 14 / 22 / 49 / 57 / 64 / 70 / 71 / 75 / 90 / 99 / 500

In long line (with nice unobstructed view) ... and in order

600 67 / 32 / 88 / 03 / 58 / 51 / 69 / 31 / 05 / 53 / 78 / 25 / 93 / 83

and at the head of the 2nd line

600 27

@BlythPower

Oh, I would probably do it at a push but it doesn't seem fun and when the fun stops, stop. It's a kind of test to myself that I'm not obsessed with trains like what my wife says I am.

PS : Great song in the signature, ha ha ha. I must listen to some Blyth Power sometime ; they kind of passed me by but I'm sure I'd like them.

I went on Saturday despite the forecast. Rained for a while when I got there but thankfully didn't last. Was very interesting to see all the vegetation cleared from the scrap lines, wondering if this means they plan to move the locos from the compound to that side? I then decided to walk round from the bank to the nature reserve, took me around 40 minutes. Didn't know there was a perfectly useable path all the way round and ended up taking a walk through the trees, fighting off all manner of wildlife!! I literally got to within 100 metres of the gate when it came into view and 66 952 shunted a line of those yellow engineering wagons and stopped, completely blocking the view!! Much cursing and throwing up of hands in disbelief ensued. Waited for a while but then just as i gave up....it moved!! The only things visible of the stored stuff because of overgrowth was the body side of the Transrail 60 which I assume has to be 061, then partial bits of 018 and 013 which are also visible from the bank side, and another grey one adjacent to the green 081 which had just the cab visible so process of elimination I guess that grey one is 060.

Over three visits this year now that means I have pinpointed all the compound locos listed as stored there with them being shuffled around. Three 60s are also listed as stored on the depot. 079 is clearly up the end nearest the A52 bridge. 099 is obvious at the back of the depot. That line has 67 003, 66 099, an EWS coloured 66, then a walkway across the tracks and an EWS class 60 up against the depot and those four locos appear to have not moved in at least a year. Does anyone know if those extra two I can't identify are 66 145 and 60 038 please?

I think the line you are talking about is 67003-60099-66145-60038

Been scanning many photos and youtube clips on line looking for confirmation thanks. Also can't seem to work out where 66 100 and 66 230 might be on the depot both listed as DB locos stored there.

I have been up to the bank today and there was what looked like a royal mail 325 close to the fuel point but I couldn't get the number, does anyone know which unit it is please?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t suppose anyone has a list of the locos visible outside the north end of the depot from Saturday 4th Sept? I have a list of locos on shed but not specifically locations. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would say the dark green (not black) is 60081 and the silver one next to it is 60099.
This according to recent reports on WNXX site.

For anyone who has access to a WNXX subscription there is a list on the news section today of the 60s, 66s & 67s at Toton
