Brigg line services being curtailed at Barnetby?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, I've had a look, but have been unable to find anything.

I've just seen the current Northern Rail Network map, which seems to imply that the Saturday only service between Sheffield and Cleethorpes via Brigg terminates at Barnetby. However, the timetables and RTT still show services continuing through to Cleethorpes.

Are there/have there been any plans to curtail the service, or could this be a misprint following the transfering of the Barton branch from Northern to EMT.

For reference, the map in question is available here: https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/travel/network-map

Mis-print of map I'd say.

I plan to use Northern to Cleethorpes via Brigg this coming Saturday, so I'll hopefully be able to confirm first hand one way or the other.

Looking again at that map I'd say there are a couple of other inaccuracies too; Retford to Gainsborough Central probably shouldn't be shown as having an infrequent service any more, and Knottingley to Goole should almost certainly show as infrequent.

Yes, it's just a mistake. An overenthusiastic editor who probably didn't quite realise that the Sheffield-Cleethorpes via Brigg and Cleethorpes-Barton services are completely separate.

Barnetby isn't a very convenient place to terminate trains as you have to do a shunt - none of the platforms are bidirectionally signalled despite the relatively recent resignalling.

Thanks both for your replies and insights. Thought this might be the case but wasn't sure
Shall get in touch with Northern and let them know.

If RTT is to be believed, it looks like buses will be running instead of trains this weekend - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/se...17/0200-0159?stp=WVS&show=pax-calls&order=wtt
Yes, engineering works between New Clee and Cleethorpes in connection with the installation of a footbridge to replace a closed foot crossing.

Clearly Northern couldn't find a way of reasonably terminating anywhere else short of Cleethorpes - ISTR they have crew breaks there during the long-ish turnarounds.

This may be a bit of a blessing for Northern's planners, as illness seems to be accounting for a number of cancellations at the moment.

I think you're right regarding crew breaks. When I did the route back in 2009, there was a layover of around an hour at Cleethorpes, and after grabbing a bit to eat in town, I recall seeing the train driver browsing the local shops.

Yes, and unfortunately I think Grimsby Town isn't treated as a recognised break location, so it's not possible to terminate there even though the line will be open.

The Barton services are, unusually, running this weekend - starting at Grimsby Town. I understand taxi moves are happening to facilitate breaks at Cleethorpes!

Hopefully it will run. When I had plans to use it on a Saturday a few weeks ago unfortunately the trip I wanted to use had been cancelled.

I just spotted another error, but an understandable one. Bare Lane-Carnforth is still showing as a limited service, but I don't think there's a direct service anymore.

There's a 0517 Lancaster to Morecambe Monday to Saturday that goes Lancaster - Carnforth (reverse) - Morecambe

At the Chester end of the map, it has the section between Chester & Helsby as "limited" service with it continuing to Runcorn. I guess a left over from the days where Northern would run an early morning Saturday service from Chester to Runcorn over the Frodsham curve for the tick in the box.

Nowadays it has an hourly service towards Manchester and if anything the Ellesmere Port section should be marked as infrequent served.

Likewise Newton-Le-Willows towards Wigan, isn't that once or twice a day in each direction?

Also Stalybridge - Huddersfield is solely TPE nowadays, the peak time Northern services being dropped by Dec 19?

Also a second block between Scunthorpe and Barnetby this weekend too. TPE suspended east of Doncaster, replaced by buses.

Yep, no point in (or way of) running a service split into four parts.

Why can't they turn around at Scunthorpe like the Northern Trains do?
Not enough stabling capacity for all trains west of the block to run as doubles (singles isn't really an option between Sheffield and Manchester on the weekend) and not enough traincrew.
