They’ve just said there’s a line side electrical fire near Camden which is further delaying us. We’ve been sitting here for 30mins now. The London Northwestern Train on platform 11 opposite is now a good hour late.

Just been given the green @ 20:48.

Edit: It looks OK now beyond Stafford at least!

Thameslink services severely disrupted by the flooding at Belsize Tunnel. Lots of cancellations and plenty of delay for those trains still getting through.
Currently waiting for a Tube (cancelled due to signal failure) to Farringdon. Looks like nothing has gone north there in over an hour?

There are reports of an electrical fire in the Camden area, further delaying services in and out of Euston. Electricity to the overhead wires has been switched off.

Can anyone shed any light on what happened to 9R56 1832 Gatwick Airport to Bedford? The Thameslink PIS at Farringdon says "arrived" (while simultaneously saying the 9P57 1846 Luton to Rainham had also "arrived" on the same platform!). The Luton train has now moved on and I'm sitting on what Traksy says is the 9T52, and the driver and PIS says is the 1946 to Bedford. This train doesn't seem to appear on RTT.

But I can find no sign on Traksy of the 9R56 and there's nowhere after Farringdon for it to escape the core! Did it maybe go into Smithfield sidings? Traksy has one in there labelled 5V54.

Edit - 9P57 just arrived into St Pancras, no mention of the 1951 (as per driver announcement) on the boards.

We are just passing 30mm for the day as I write. The summer's global cyclical pattern has set up such that, for example, western USA and Canada are having exceptional heat, whereas east US is cooler, and that jet stream pattern continues across the Atlantic to give us, especially eastern UK, cool and wet conditions. As a gardener I appreciate it after the driest April on record (the only precipitation that fell in the whole month here was snow!).

It's not especially localised - there is heavy rain associated with a small low pressure and convergence zone over very large parts of southern England but, equally, some places have missed the showers, which is in the nature of showers.

Similar in East Hampshire close on 30mm in rolling 24 hrs to 20:00 today -15mm between 19:00 -19:35 this evening!

9S54 to Cambridge just pulled into Platform A (normally southbound) at St Pancras, which freaked everyone out!

I didn't realise that St Pancras and the new ECML<>TL Core link was bi-di.

Thameslink reporting on twitter that they are still unable to run trains heading north from St Pancras to St Albans/Bedford.

Yep. Having sat on a train for 15 mins at Farringdon and then over 30 mins at St Pancras, it was announced cancelled and booted off. Then the train was locked up, moved northbound to the end of Platform B... and has sat there ever since...

Looks like you might be moving shortly as one of the lines has now been cleared in the flooded area.

No services between Euston and Watford Junction for the rest of tonight according to national rail enquiries.

Last train to reach Shepperton from Waterloo was at 17:03, all trains since have been/are terminating at Fulwell.

Was originally just the slows blocked, then there started to be problems on the fasts, from debris to track circuits failing, then the points at Carlton Road went, so without any way to cross from the core to the fasts meant it was job stopped for Thameslink. T52 hasn't passed Carlton Road Jn yet.

After a 10 minute wait in the tunnel outside St Pancras we just moved a little bit. Now stopped again at Kentish Town station. I'm on 9T58.

(Edit - moving again)

9T52 was the one everyone was kicked off from at St Pancras. Then there were 2 dark trains that passed through, then another Peterborough bi-di through Platform A, then the one I'm on.

=========

Edit 2 - looks like we're trailing 9T52 which is presumably making its way to Cricklewood sidings.

What happens to train crew in such circumstances? Would a Preston Avanti driver who’s stuck at Euston be put up in a hotel for the night - or be put in a taxi home?

Case by case basis really - depends what the crew member wants / agrees with Control and what is feasible.

Depends on the circumstances and the TOC, but most traincrew have a clause in their contracts requiring them to work a certain duration beyond their booked shift length in the event of disruption, as well as to help out as required.

Obviously in cases like these it will be well beyond those normal clauses and there is a risk of going beyond the "Hidden" guidelines on shift length (max 12 hours on safety critical tasks). Normally only a senior member of staff (e.g. the Duty Control Manager) can authorise the latter to be exceeded.

So yes, it's quite possible that traincrew would be lodged overnight if they end up heavily delayed. That can of course cause disruption the following day(s) as they are given time off in lieu, even if the initial cause of the disruption - flooding in this case - has receded.

The Wessex region had it particularly bad all in one go. Botley, Hinton Admiral, Southampton Platforms 3 and 4, and Shepperton all flooded badly around the same time. This added to the fact a Freight train failed blocking Northam Junction, and a tree came down at Buriton Tunnel all at the same time cannot have been fun for the passengers.

Thameslink are slowly reinstating services eg the St Alban's to Sutton/Wimbledon but bearing in mind there are alternatives for those services, I don't know why they just don't cancel them for the day?

LNR have got ticket acceptance with Chiltern (Marylebone <-> Birmingham), East Midlands Railway (St. Pancras <-> Derby), CrossCountry (Birmingham <-> Leicester, Tamworth, Derby), Thameslink (St Pancras <-> Bedford)

Although it seemed to be organized somewhat slowly, they tweeted this 15 minutes ago and Avanti had acceptance with Chiltern and EMR just under an hour ago.
I arrived at KX from Waverley around 21.50 last night To find the circle and H&C not working and massive problems with the Met due to flooding. Foot slogged it along a very wet Euston/Marylebone Road to Marylebone to get back to Princes Risborough. Chiltern had a shortage of train crews with multiple trains cancelled so I took a slow Wycombe train to get me almost home. 2 guys on that train were Avanti ‘refugees’ trying to get to Birmingham and not at all familiar with the Chiltern route. The B’ham train due out of Wycombe at 22.34 had been cancelled and with the help of the station security guard at Wycombe who phoned Chiltern he established that the next B’ham train was actually running at 23.02. I hope those guys got home, I took a cab from Wycombe to Risborough as I couldn’t be bothered to wait for the next train in.

Beautiful sunny weather? What part of the West are u in? Down Plymouth we had a couple of good weeks in June and that's it. Loads of rain past few days, roads all flooded and the line was shut last week too at Plympton.
Blackpool had been great so far this year.

Just want to say thanks to staff at Milton Keynes, they did a great job in trying circumstances.

As of Friday, it seems that the Euston to Watford DC service is still out action south of South Kenton.

Does this result from the substation fire?

Not sure why you think that, they have been running into Euston all day.

The extended disruption to yesterday was caused by the flooding in Primrose Hill tunnel. This is the trouble when you have your current collection system on the floor.
