Trainspotting today at South Kenton lots of 319s out and about mostly in White livery with Blue doors
Indeed had a ride on one back from Harrow & Wealdstone. PRM compliant but no air con 30c outside bit hot
Have some of the 350 gone on holiday?

Nope, 350s are still very much here, it’s just there are now more 319 diagrams in place since the timetable change, so 319s are a relatively common sight for the time being. :)

Seems to be going backwards the 350 are a better train, the 319 I came back on was a bit tatty
Does that mean that there a number of 350s resting in a train care home someware

I think the trouble is they don’t care about the 319s appearance, as they aren’t here for much longer. :(

Yeah, they're not well looked after. That said, the 319/2s (ex Brighton Express) are my favourite train on LNR - super-generous seat spacing and proper 2+1 First Class.

Northampton, mostly.

Observed Evening peaks Mon-Fri:

2N73 1630 Euston-Northampton (8 car)
2N75 1723 Euston-Northampton (8 car)
2N69 1824 Euston-Northampton (8 car)
2B65 1838 Euston-Bletchley (12 car)

Not sure of the Morning services, but on RTT they are usually shown as timed for Class 321 rather than class 350.

I've seen the 2N69 also run as a 12 car recently

Once again, Northampton gets the thin end of the wedge with decrepit class 319s covering turns to Northampton.

The 319s should be confined to Tring's or MK at a push. They are totally unsuited for journeys of over an hour (which most of the Northampton turns are).

Yes. It's certainly a backward step in both speed and comfort, going back to before 1989-90, when the 321/4s replaced the 317s on all the routes.

LNW Euston 319s
I /think/ these are the trains, compiled from reports and observations and gap filling by use of RTT - I do not know what the links are between the a.m. trains that berth at Camden to the p.m. trains that start there, neither does this method yield 8car or 12car - there seem to be variations in observations on 8 v. 12.

It was on Monday 05th July 2021.

When I rode them Euston to Watford Junction and captured the final Northampton and Bletchley moves at harrow and Wealdstone whilst also getting 350127 and 350113 for final time ex London Midlands livery.

However my good sources and friends have found the workings to be the same but it should be noted they can be anything from 4 8 or 12 cars depending on the day and depending on 319 available on the day.

Note this post is for the pm/ evening workings only - I am unsure myself on the am ones

Class 319's are being pretty much stood down from Monday, LNR timetable changes and stock utilisation will see 350's replace 319's on most of the above mentioned circuits.

However the 2B34 service (0753 Bletchley-Euston) and the 5J91/2J91 circuit are withdrawn in their entirety from the revised timetable.

Thats a shame, I'm glad I managed to catch all four of the weekday peak diagrams before they went.

Oh no! :(

I better get on one before they go completely then!

Do you know what diagrams they will remain on for the time being by any chance?

Thanks.

Thanks very much @Silverlinky! :D

Also, what prompted LNWR to suddenly drop the use of 319s, as I thought the current timetable ran until December?

Track and Trace!! High numbers of isolations.

Core traction is 350's, everyone signs them! Far fewer drivers sign 319's....so it was difficult to cover the jobs. 2 busy circuits have gone from 319 to 350.

Bletchley-Bedford and Watford St Albans services on Saturdays have also been withdrawn.

Also noticed this evening that Southern's Clapham-Milton Keynes service has been pulled completely from Monday too for the same (pinging) reason.

How long have these got left with LNWR?
I'd say less than 6 months is a fair assumption.

(Having spoken to various people in recent months, the latest date I've heard is at the Dec 21 timetable change)

Although, anything can happen in this day and age, so they could be around longer than 6 months, but it's always better to assume less, then it's a pleasant surprise if they do hang around longer! ;)

Will they get a proper sendoff?

I'm not entirely sure one is warranted - they have just been a temporary fleet to deal with increasing demand prior to March 2020 - they aren't synonymous with the Euston route. I dont think there was a 'proper send off' for the London Midland 321s that had actually worked the route for over 25 years.

They aren't the last 319s in service in any case.

The 319's were meant to go off lease in November, but then timetables and diagrams came out which saw them with the company until mid December.

Going to be dependant on what happens with passenger numbers before December, as the timetable could be recast in accordance with the RRG statement....fewer trains, less duplication. As per the post above, LNR acquired them to cope with increasing passenger numbers......not really needed now! Overall passenger journeys are at 39% of average pre-covid numbers.

For a company which saw most of its revenue earned through commuter traffic, that part of the business has been very slow to return whereas weekend off peak travel has rebounded very well.

Agree with this. Maybe Northern will facilitate one? Who knows.

319s were good trains in the 20th century, but their time has now past. Ok for say the St Albans Abbey branch, but the mainline. I think not.
