The other day, while walking up the footbridge at Ponders End with my father, he looked at the thing holding up the bridge and said 'silly bugggers, that's never ten foot',
He had seen the well known graffiti tag 10FOOT and mistakenly thought that it was official.
Has anyone else had similar occurrences?

Was in London with my parents once, when we had to use the Waterloo and City Line from Bank to Waterloo. We get down onto the platforms, and my mother goes and asks the member of staff present whether the train goes to Waterloo! o_O

My parents were once waiting at Ashford station of old for a family member, and asked the gentleman on the ticket barrier "whether there had been any hold-ups" to be met with the reply "Only if you've got a shot gun" !

I think I've shared this one before, but here it is again, just in case!

Many, many years ago, we took the bikes out on the train. The HST pulled in and I loaded the three bikes as quickly as possible in the guards/cycles area whilst my wife and sprog waited at the nearest passenger door (opposite end of the carriage). The guard got more and more flustered until she blurted out 'I'll finish loading those, you go back to your children'. I told her that one of 'them' is my wife. The guard went a funny colour and found something else to do!

(She was clearly bothered about what, to her, was two 'unsupervised' children and I have no issue with that. However, I don't know whether my wife looked really young or if I looked really old!)

My mother buying a ticket.

"One adult to Bristol please"

"Single or return?"

"Whichever's cheaper"

Was this before there was a big dot-matrix sign up saying "WATERLOO & CITY - ALL TRAINS GO TO WATERLOO"? If so, I guess that's an understandable thing to do if you are unfamiliar with the system.

Edit: They don't actually seem to do this at Bank, only at Waterloo. Please ignore my comment.

I was once on a Locohauled Train in BR days stood in the vestibule and opposite me there were some Teenagers with the drop light window down and they kept putting their heads out when the Guard came through and spoke to them in a kind of joking manner saying‘Don’t do that because if you get your head knocked off you won’t have a leg to stand on’.
