E-ticket, how to get into Apple Wallet?

I have accidentally bought two tickets as e-tickets (the Trainsplit system annoyingly defaults back to this at the slightest opportunity - my phone froze as I tried to get to the payment page, and when I refreshed it I didn’t realise it had done this).

Anyway the confirmation email came through, which is when I discovered the error, but when I click on Passenger 1 it loads a QR code but I can’t find out how to get it into Wallet. There‘s two Passengers/tickets and I can only bring them up individually. Even then I can only find them on the email, which is a bit dangerous as I tend to delete older emails and the journey is for 12th October.

What am I doing wrong? Can I get them cancelled or changed to collect from ToD machine?

Can the system be tweaked so that if you select collect from machine it doesn’t revert to e-tickets during the rest of the process?

In the email "Your e-tickets to xxxxxxxx dd/mm/yyyy", there is an option to Add the ticket(s) to your Apple Wallet.

There is an "Add to Apple Wallet" button, although as I'm using the new security settings, it was showing as a blank square until I enabled remote content to be loaded in the email.

It would be a darn sight easier if this option was available from within the app itself.

I get this:

E-tickets for your journey (Download your tickets onto your smartphone or print at home - scan your e-tickets at the barrier):

But tapping on Download is unresponsive. Can’t see any other means to do it. Thought it might be in my Raileasy app but nope nothing there.

It's not exactly what you're asking for, but if you were signed into your Trainsplit account when you bought them, if you install the Trainsplit app on the phone you can find them in there, that would deal with the accidental e-mail deletion issue.

I can confirm this definitely works (albeit for Android) as I just did it :)

Other option is to install Adobe Reader on the phone and view them as email attachments, they will then stay on the phone in Adobe Reader's history.

Thanks, that sounds promising. Would mean I have to use the most recent version of Trainsplit though I presume?

I’ve done a botch job in the meantime and copied the QR pages into my Notes file.

Would be much easier if it didn’t turn them into e-tickets in the first place!

There are two reasons they do this:

1) Because the fees for using TOD are very high, where e-tickets are much more reasonable. As other posters have commented on other threads, third party retailers are effectively subsidising TOD out of their (already low) commission.
2) Most people prefer e-tickets. I know there are those that don't, but in percentage terms customer preference is overwhelmingly in favour of e-tickets.

That's the booking confirmation email. You should have also received a separate e-tickets email which has the Apple Wallet links in it.
