I need to travel tomorrow from Lichfield TV to Stansted Airport, with a break of journey at Harlow Town (I actually have two tickets, Lichfield to Harlow and Harlow to Stansted).

I have an anytime First ticket and, much though LNR has to laud it, I don’t fancy doing the LTV - EUS leg in an appalling 350 ‘first class’ section (yeah I know, first world problems). But the National Rail planner is offering a journey from Lichfield TV to Stafford, then Stafford to London passing through Lichfield.

I wasn’t aware of an easement of this nature here - would my ticket be accepted on that itinerary?

It's not a Permitted Route because of the double back (from Stafford; through Rugeley Trent Valley and Lichfield Trent Valley).

National Rail says you need multiple tickets for the journey.

Why not take the Crosscity to Birmingham and then catch the Avanti from there?

I was offered (and took) an Advance via this route (to Cambridge, so different London shuffle). It turned out to be a mistake for a variety of different reasons, namely a tiny connection at Stafford that was swallowed up by the northbound LNR working running >10 minutes late, so I went via Birmingham (else would have been stranded in Stafford), but the ticket was definitely offered.

Of course, if you get an itinerary sold with your ticket, it's always valid. And if it's an advance, it would be hard for anyone to argue with it, even the Euston gateline.

I'll just go for the option via New Street, I think. Thanks for the help.
