Apparently BA are bringing 4 A380s back into service from December. However to get crew familiarisation, they will be on short haul routes (Madrid and Frankfurt) from next month. Cheap and easy way to get a Super Jumbo trip in.

British Airways is rumored to be planning Airbus A380 flights to both Frankfurt and Madrid next month, according to Head for Points. The flights would allow the airline to conduct crew training on short-haul flights.

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
Could have done with those out and about a bit sooner. Currently in a CW bed on a rather elderly 777. Seat power system on the fritz, inflight AV appears to be of a 2005 vintage. Even a small cascade with redeployed A380s allowing A350s to spread their wings a bit would have been nice.

Off topic, but those 777's with the old entertainment system are well on there way out now (the cabin anyway, not the aircraft themselves), being replaced with a much better Panasonic system and the new club 'vector' seats.

Oh I wish I could make one of these flights. Never done an A380 and feels like a perfect opportunity. I wonder how long it will go on for?

Qantas are re-activating some of their A380s to start by year-end, London being a key destination.
For some reason the first one has been parked at Dresden airport for the covid duration!

On Thursday while at a funeral near Northwich I was surprised to see an Emirates A380 on its landing approach for Manchester from Dubai (EK17).
Flights are certainly stirring again.

Was it not there for a cabin refit?

Emirates have been using theirs quite a lot.

There have been semi regular A380s for a few months now into Manchester. Things are definitely building back up again.

Twice in the past week I have been driving on the M25 near Heathrow as an Emirates A380 was taking off. Quite a surprise each time!

Sorry, I didn’t realise you were specifically referring to Emirates A380’s.

Although I suppose I could use them to Dubai and travel elsewhere from there…

As of today there are 2 operators using the A380 into Heathrow.

6x Daily on the Dubai - London route with Emirates
1x Daily on Both London - Madrid and Frankfurt with BA until the end of the month.

From December BA plan to have;Los Angeles, Dubai & Miami all 1x daily.

Qatar seem to be going for Doha to London 2x Daily & Paris 1x Daily.

Singapore also look to be doing 1x Daily on the London route as well from this month.

Thanks, will look at LA prices to combine with an Amtrak journey to Chicago in Jan/Feb :)
Strongly recommend flying into New York or Chicago, getting the California Zephyr to San Francisco or the Southwest Chief to LA, and A380 back over the pond. Truly epic journey.

That’s exactly the kind of journey I’m looking for. Any particular reason to do it that way around, rather than fly to the West of America and Amtrak back East? I’d rather have the A380 on the day flight than overnight I think?

You really need to do something like the Zephyr westbound. Firstly, it tracks the old pioneer trails and effectively tells the story of the westbound expansion of the frontier, and secondly, westbound, the timings guarantee the most stunning scenery- Glacier National Park for example - will always be in the daytime.

Okay, that’s interesting thanks for letting me know :)

Emirates appear to be 2x daily A380s into Manchester now. Definitely a sign things are picking back up.

Does the new T2 have any A380-capable airbridges? That pier at T1 isnt long for this world by all accounts....will they just stop sending A380s to MAN when that happens?

Good morning everyone,

Having never flown on an A380, this thread caught my interest. Are there still any short haul A380 flights?

Finally, can anyone reccomend a website which shows whic aircraft is used on each route (perhaps something like Real Time Trains but for flying).

Many thanks in advance for your help.

I'm fairly sure that the A380s are confined to their usual routes now that flying has picked up post-covid.

FlightRadar24 is a common choice for seeing which aircraft is on a particular flight, but it doesn't work in quite the way that RTT does (you can see past, but not future allocations). Cirium looks to have full future allocations but isn't a free service. If it's just specific flights that you're after, the relevant airline's booking system will often tell you the booked aircraft type.

I was poking FlightRadar24 the other day and saw an A380 on a Frankfurt - Heathrow service. Not sure if it was a one-off or not however!

Looking back through the history of FRA-LHR flights...it definitely wasn't a one-off! BA905 was regularly an A380 during January and February; BA907 was an A380 yesterday and today and BA911 has fairly consistently been an A380 for a few weeks (since 905 ceased being an A380). The summer timetable kicked in yesterday though so it'd be a convenient time for them to remove it from the route.
