Has any one been on the Schmid People Mover, it goes over a railway line in Germany, I stumbled across it on You Tube, looks quite facinating, only 3 were built and 2 remain in service.?

It is a lift that goes vertically, then horizontally. Quite amazing.

I've come across a lift which does that - both vertical and horizontal - somewhere else. Genoa?

No this one is different, it moves continuously in a smooth movement up, across the tracks, and back down the other side. The one in Genoa is basically a horizontal tram which drives itself into a standard lift.

I saw it the Schmid thing on Youtube the other day, it looks like a good idea but there seems to be a lot that can go wrong

Thanks - it looks technically clever, but the main issue I see is capacity: two normal lifts and a walkway would have at least twice the capacity, probably 3x, so I am not sure where the advantage lies - non-wheelchair-users with limited mobility perhaps?

Could imagine that travelling with a lot of luggage is easier with the Schmidt People Mover as you'll only have to load the luggage into and out of the elevator once instead of twice.

I really like the idea of this. This would be very good to have over here on our footbridges and subways on the railway network to avoid having to use two lifts to cross the tracks.

Any idea where the other two are located (the second one that still exists and the one that was removed)? I am guessing somewhere in Germany (perhaps other railway stations)?

the first one was over B312 road near Pfullingen, the second one is the one in Altbach you see in the video and the third one is at Betriebsbahnhof Rummelsburg station in Berlin.

Somewhere
I didn't even realise there was one in Berlin despite having been through the station many times.

However, the Google reviews for the station possibly reval the non-Tom Scott reality of the "wonder-lift":

Schlimmster aufzug der ganzen Welt dieser gehört sofort Außer betrieb genommen und abgerissen ich bin min 3 mal gestorben Bin damit stecken geblieben und musste mit der Feuerwehr zusammen in einem Sicherheitsgurt hinunter klettern.!!!
Worst lift in the whole world, it belongs out of service and demoloshed. I have been stuck in it and died(?) at least 3 times and the fire brigade had to climb in and rescue me.

Mit nem "tollen" Aufzug, der von 365 Tagen im Jahr vielleicht an 70 Tagen funktioniert und permanent nach Pisse "duftet"
With a "great" lift, that of 365 days in the year works on maybe 70 and always smells of pee.

Aufzug eigentlich so gut wie immer defekt
Lift is pretty much always out of service

auch wenn es hier einen sehenswerten fahrstuhl gibt, dieser funktioniert in 98% aller fälle nicht- und ich bin täglich an den bahnhof.
Even when there's a notable lift hier, it doesn't work 98% of the time - and I am at the station every day.

I think "gestorben" there is probably auto-correct for "gestoert" meaning roughly "delayed by a fault." Fortunately there is a conventional subway with steps...
