I’m looking to see some old timetables for both the north highland lines (KYL / WCK) and west highland lines (FTW / OBN) from 70s, 80s and 90s. Does anyone have some old copies they can scan in / take a phone pic and upload for me?

I have a full set of BR all line Timetables from May 1976 to May 1990 inclusive, plus May 1974, winter 1991/2, Summer 1993, Winter 1999, Summer 2000 and Summer 2002.

Plus BR Scottish Region TT for 1970, 1972, 1973 and 1975.

Just give me some years and the tables (routes) and I will try an oblige later today or tomorrow.

Never heard of that…

Just had a look and wasn’t very successful, I’m afraid
Look at some of the comprehensive timetables in the bus section, rather than the rail section eg Getting Around the Highlands and Islands. Has 1968, 1975 and 1991.
Also has BR all-line timetable 1982.

Not quite the exact years you wanted but close.

I have a line for all seasons leaflet which shows Train services between Edinburgh Glasgow Oban Fort William & Malliag. Inside is the timetable from 5th May 1975 to 1st may 1976. Drawing of a class 27 is on the front.

I photograph it and send direct.

Hi @hexagon789 I'm not the OP, but Tables 156, 158 and 166 for 1976/7, 1977/8 and 1978/9 would be interesting to me - thanks.

Also @VideozVideoz do note that https://timetableworld.com includes a full BR timetable for 1982.

That's a great link, thank you, I wasn't aware of this but I am now!

Yes, thanks also for this. I'd forgotten some of the details of the exact evolution of the South Western Division / SWT services during the mid-90s, and this will be useful.

... quite a revelation. It confirms what I remember, that the Portsmouth Direct only had 2tph from May 1993, until September 1994. Then a quirky Haslemere terminator was added, non-stop to Guildford via Cobham (though very badly timed in the up direction), before the 20-minute pattern, including two fasts an hour, a semi-fast and a Guildford-Haslemere shuttle, was introduced in May 1995. So, just two years after it got its worst service of recent times (to 2019), it went to getting its best-ever service to date!

Also interesting is the very poor Sunday service on the Direct in autumn-winter-spring 1994/95. For much of the 80s, October-March services were only hourly during the morning but became half-hourly in the afternoon. In autumn-winter-spring 1994/95 (October to May, so well into the lighter, warmer months), it was only hourly until 1700! The Direct was clearly going through a notably thin service provision in this period (after all the promise of the Greyhound timetable in 1989) before things got radically better in the second half of the nineties.

Nice scans. Flat bed or book scanner?
Oh, thank you. I didn't actually think they were all that great but they were the best I could do. The lighting being so variable capture to capture annoyed me but I couldn't seem to get a consistent balance no matter how much I tried.

I did each page several times simply picked the sharpest captures I could.

It can be a pain scanning books where the print goes into the spine. I use a CZUR ET16 overhead book scanner. But some books defeat even that. Yes, I am looking at you, United Automobiles Company.

@hexagon789 are you still ok for those 70s timetables on the SWD? (Apologies for the reminder!)

No worries if you don't have time right now! Thanks.

Hi @nw1 , I haven't forgotten. I did the scans but wasn't very happy with them, so I'm planning to redo them for you tomorrow or Thursday if you don't mind.

The ones I took were suffering very variable lighting cast, making some fairly difficult to read. I blame the poor weather with cloudy skies and electric lights not doing the same job lighting the room!

I hope you don't mind, but I think it wiuld be better if I retook them for you on a brighter day.

Hi @hexagon789, no worries! Happy to wait if it means higher quality scans, so thanks for that :)

Well, you saw what the ones I did for VideozVideoz were like. I think I got them clean enough to read but you can see how hugely variable the lighting is in them, some look as though I've been playing silly beggars with the contrast settings! I would try doing them in another room but honestly I think I picked the brightest room as it is and I find electric light gives a very yellow cast, natural light is much "cleaner" just sadly the Scottish weather isn't being so clean right now...

Get a czur ct16 or ct18. They do lovely scans without straining the spine of the book. This i did with my ct16. Its a tiny book little bigger than a credit card and fragile. https://timetableworld.com/ttw-viewer.php?token=ce48cde2-b5bc-45ee-a2f2-ce15d6414b55 link goes to images of a timetable.
