As promised from another thread which accidently went off topic onto 12 hour pacer bashing, this is the thread for discussion of the topic.

Maybe we should agress a 12 hour pacer bash day on a saturday. I can do 6am-6pm easily on FGW. Anyoneone else interested in setting a saturday and as many members pacer bash as possible.

Pacer bashing is the new rock n roll (or should that be 'bounce n roll'?), at least with a minority of us! I won't be able to do any FGW based stuff, but I'll be with you in spirit. Surely a good do would be Cardiff Valleys, especially as Northern based punters like me could use the WAG train to access it (OK, you wouldn't get 12 hours, but you can't do that when any sort of positioning move is required). Anyway, I'm pleased that it's catching on at last, as it can be great fun.

Well I'm glad we haven't all gone mad! :|

Maybe it's a location thing? Pacers don't run to Nottingham, or through the Midlands, and only very rarely here (<().

I concede that I would be interested in such a meet. But there are three reasons (none of which are pro Pacer); (1) because much of the Valleys is still unchartered territory, (2) it's easy from here, and (3) it's an excuse to show the rookies just how rubbish they are! <D

I sense a new Pacer War...

Maybe, but the Pacer veg are much more organised this time; our arguments much better rehearsed.
We’ve had more opportunities to air our views! (Given that the good versus bad Marmite-esque debate on Pacers is a perpetually recurring theme)

I’ve just got back from the Welsh valleys: Despite my optimistic hopes I completely circumnavigated any Pacer travel, being based principally around the decidedly Sprinter-ised Merthy Tydfil branch. :( It was good to be in the presence of 143s again though, over 15 years after they were spirited away from my native north east England. Oh the reminiscing…As well as catching up with the former Reggie Railways North East 142s that are bouncing around the Welsh valleys!

If there’s going to be a RailUK “Pacer bash” I’d be up for one in Northern territory, subject to the chosen date being convenient for me: Being resident in Birmingham these days, it’s a fair trek to any centres of Pacer activity.

I don't have a huge hatred of pacers like some people (given the right interior they can be acceptable for certain jobs) but I certainly don't rate them :|

i was thinking countrywide pacer bashing e.g wherever is local to you. so if your northern then you have 142, 444's and South Wales and South West we have the 142, 143. a north v. south pacer bash so to speak. glory of being the 12 hour pacer basher for the person who gets the most mileage in on a 142, one for a 143 and one for a 144. Do you know I have never thought about this pacer bashing business til yesterday.

So are we gonna find some fgw pacer bashers or is it just me who'se gonna be doing them.

I would be up for a northern pacer bash one of the pacers usual routes goes from my local area so it would be an easy start (though it would probably be my luck that the day chosen would be the day northern decide to use a 153 or 150/2 on the Lincoln Central - Adwick service)

I have to admit, the ATW 143s actually look quite smart on the inside (and even on the outside I suppose), so that's something. The ex-FNW 142s that now call Exeter home, though... oh dear. Poor appearance, both inside and out, 3+2 bus bench seating, and use on some very marginal bends (Portsmouth Arms?)...

yes agree on 142's but at least the 143's are slightly better inside and ride quality is slightly better. And 142009 has been northernised ableit in all over blue and thats it

se we have a northern basher, any for South wales and anyone else in Devon

IIRC there is one duty a day which is a 153 on the Scunthorpe - Lincoln - Adwick merry-gp-round. This is the unit which worked the previous day's Barton branch (and swaps over n Sheffield so that a new 153 ends up at Scunthorpe at the end of the day.

God help us. (And that's coming from someone who has considered himself to be an atheist since he was at infant school.)

Can I suggest that this thread is moved to the Forum Meets thread?

Someone send out a warning to the A&Es of the north; plenty of Pacer veg heading your way on the 6th of March (remember that the c2c blue train thing is on the 5th, so you may need to change the date)!

Bloody hell, it's a bit like the Middle East revolutions - once one started, they all want to follow.

Was going to invite you along but thought you'd not be able to get permission for a whole day (plus would mean a very early start and very late finish for you as well).

I'm hoping to do a pacer bash some time just to get the last two I need for haulage (142052/095). Deansgate to Oxford Road and back should hopefully do it.

Going to book an appointment with the doctor in the morning - my back is playing up just thinking about 12 hours on pacers!

It seems that pacer bashing isn't the minority interest it once seemed to be!
