Does anyone know whether tokens appear in all the publications listed, and over what dates ?

Not a bad price for people wanting to put themselves through an endurance test. It will test you both physically and mentally. You have been warned.

Yes, you're right there but that's part of the fun. Best to pick a Saturday so that you can start early and also pick a day when the weather is good!

As an outsider (I've never travelled on them except from Piccadilly to Oxford Road and back a couple of months ago), am I right in thinking that Northern has a certain reputation as the worst TOC in terms of poor rolling stock, overcrowding, and vicious RPIs?

They do have some poor rolling stock, particularly the early 150's. Otherwise, they're not too bad. Overcrowding is no worse than any of the southern TOC's but no problem during the day and at Weekends. The RPI's are only viscous if you try to con them or Northern. Overall, Northern do not provide a bad service and their staff are mostly friendly and helpful

I'm off tomorrow. So how would I get the vouchers? I'm just outside Edinburgh but could pop down on a TPE for next to nothing. Would two vouchers from different local papers on the same day work or does it have to be from different days?

These rovers would be ideal to get some mates travelling by train again.

Whilst I'll happily complain about Northern Rail's problems till the cows come home (not that many of them are actually directly their fault) but one thing I will say is that Northern Rail's staff (apart from those G4S goons in Manchester) are at worst professional and normally polite and friendly. Can't say I've ever had a bad experience with one of their staff.

Agreed. 99% of the guards and drivers I've talked to have been friendly and decent people. All of the bad experiences with Northern have been G4S and the sometimes the barrier people at Leeds.

Aye good thinking. No probs in refunding paper/postage costs + I'll dish out a rail map as a thankyou for trouble.

Same here, although no railway map from me. I do have some tokens for 50p off a pint at Wetherspoons which I'll happily part with.

If it is anything like the tokens printed in for the East Coast special tickets, you could just buy two papers on the same day and use those.

Anyone know the nearest place to buy a suitable paper near Stoke On Trent? Annoying that we have regular Northern service but the local paper is not printed by that company.

Appears to be very much a NW promotion - there's numerous papers in Yorkshire that are part of the same company but are not taking part in this one.

Does anyone know when the tokens are being published, are they from the 28th Feb or for example are they in tonight's papers ? . I will have to drive a few miles to get copies, also will 2 tokens from the same edition newspaper be acceptable? Someone from Northern help please.

The offer appeared in tonight's Johnstone Press North West Newspapers. They are going to print ONE token in each newspaper until Saturday 26th. You have to collect two tokens and then register on the website to print off an application form and then take to be issued at a Northern station.

Full terms and conditions are here...http://www.northernrail.org/march10

Two tokens from the same date should be alright (so you'll have to buy two papers, might look a bit funny!). Only way that they could make you buy the papers on different dates would be to have the date on the token. Same for any of the other paper offers, like East Coast.

I can confirm that no dates are printed on the tockens
