It seems to me allowing passengers to travel into Euston, via the tube (I assume) and out of Paddington is rather an extreme way of allowing people to use alternative services when there are buses from Reading to Basingstoke.

Also why not allow people to go from Reading to go to Westbury to connect with Southampton and Portsmouth?

and heaven knows where Southern came from unless they think people for Southampton/ Portsmouth should go to Euston then tube to Victoria to get a train?

A signalling problem is causing disruption at Basingstoke.

Because of this, the following alterations will apply until further notice:

There are delays of up to 45 minutes on all routes through the station
A limited bus service will run between Reading and Basingstoke calling at all stations

CrossCountry passengers may use London Midland and Virgin Trains services between Birmingham New Street and london Euston, First Great Western services between London Paddington and Reading and South West Trains between London Waterloo and Southhampton.

South West Trains passengers may use CrossCountry and Southern services on any reasonable route.

I presume they mean that one can go from Southampton to Victoria via Southern for no extra charge, which is jolly decent of them.
Anyway, thanks for that piece of information, it may come in useful should I decide to go somewhere later.

Yes but have you ever done Victoria to Southampton on a direct train?

...It takes a while ;)
