who informs me.

Wrexham has LED displays on all platforms now...

I took a look this late Sunday afternoon, and indeed within the last week or so these info displays have been erected,a vast improvement on the old tv screens in my opinion,
I observed the following.
Booking office, LED Bi Lingual screen showing departures, alas no arrivals for terminating trains, the curse of the VT ex Euston 1810, split at Chester,if its late or cancelled into Wrexham.
Platform one footbridge and night entrance/exit,LED screen showing departures only, non bi lingual.
Platforms 1/2/3 indoor variety of rolling information display, giving next arrival
where to & on time or late, then next stations rolling stations index, 2nd & 3rd following trains, I prefer these displays to single screen.

I also noted the new lift shaft is almost complete to platform 4, making Wrexham General totally wheelchair & disabled friendly.

A great encouragement to the double tracking to be announced on Nov 3rd so I am led to believe, but the worst kept secret in Wales.

Bob

PS sorry about the 6 in platform, could not change it

Will you Cambrian types be decorating the screens for Xmas:) indeed Wrexham General is a building site once again, with the Builder Centre end car park blocked off yet again. Tell me Gareth with these new screens, could they use them to inform of delayed or cancelled arrivals that terminate.

Swansea is still a building site. The new ticket office has opened, and the enw WH Smith's, but the new automatic barriers aren't due to be instaleld until the end of November. Goodness knows when all the work will actually be completed!

Well it has to be an improvement on how the High St station had become!

All stations on the Welsh half of the Borderlands line have also had electronic displays fitted, in addition to a very awfully synthesised announcements.

Wrexham Central also has been fitted with both a platform and single destination CIS board.

The problem I find with these boards is, they omit trains terminating at Both Wrexham Town Stations, more so the few that terminate at General. On the other hand the screens are a big improvement at General compared to the awful tv type screens that were invisible at certain times of the day.

Depends on the type of display but by displaying a terminating service, for example one that has been delayed that may be blocking the display of the return working. Usually more people are waiting to catch a train than meet it and while most forum members will know that if A is late B will be delayed/cancelled/amended most passengers will not.

In Wrexham Central, the incoming train automatically becomes the outgoing train to Bidston, which goes up and down the line all day with short turnaround times.

If the PIS screens showed "xx.30 Terminates Here", people may assume that the train which has arrived is out of service and not going to Bidston.

Most locals seem to know that all services just go up and down the line anyway.

With all due respect, several trains terminate at Wrexham General, If the VT for example is late or cancelled into Wrexham, no one at Wrexham waiting to pick up Pax would know via NR. It would be the goodwill of pax on board or at Chester using a mobile.
Wrexham Central is of course different with its same stock up & down.

I take it all back, when I was on Wrexham General station on Thursday at 0555 waiting for the Chester train, I noticed the new CIS on platform one was showing a terminating train.

Next train terminates here, ( scrolling 2nd line ) it is 0540 from Chester,on time
2nd Cardiff Central
3rd Birmingham Int

So well done, whoever paid for the excellent displays & real time info, at least no bi ling announcement was made of the terminating train.

I was stranded on the Wrexham - Bidston service on Saturday at Penyffordd for an hour and a half, which was terminated early at Shotton due to a lorry crash into the bridge...

...and anyway, the CIS screens were extremely swiftly updated at Penyffordd explaining about the incident and that replacement buses would be put in operation. Despite this people still came to sit at the platform, despite the Northbound train being clearly stationary on the other platform.

On the other hand, the CIS boards at Gwersyllt [southbound], Cefn y Bedd and Hope are no longer working again.
