Burnley stations

I'm doing a trip in a few weeks which involves changing at Burnley from the Colne branch and walking to Manchester Road station to get to Hebden Bridge.

I was wondering if anyone could provide some guidance please on the best station to alight at? I notice that Burnley Central is about 0.8 miles to Manchester Road and Burnley Barracks is 0.6.

Would I be able to get off at the Barracks station? Or would it be better to go for the longer option through the town?

Barracks is in essence a walk along a main road and two back roads, from Central it's a tad more complex. Best to go with barracks IMO.

Although bailing at Central will allow you better to appreciate the ambience of Burnley town centre. Better go with Barracks..........

... and with higher passenger usage figures than Central which is staffed all day.

Unless you actually need to be in Burnley for something, it would be better to change at either Blackburn or Accrington on to the following York service.

Although I cannot imagine for the life of me why anyone would have anything to do in Burnley... the people of Burnley dont!

Although stupid me has not considered the journey FROM Colne. Though would still rather change at Accy than walk through Burnley

X43 bus from Nelson?

Manchester Road will have higher numbers because journey times to anywhere useful are that much quicker. Northern have expressed concern that passenger numbers are low from Colne/Burnley on the East Lancs services, but they don't seem to realise that it's because journey times are just too slow to Blackburn/Preston when compared to the motorway/from Manchester Road.

Also, [STN]BYM[/STN] is an absolute dump

Unfortunately the trains cross at Accrington at 10:19 so no chance of changing there. I'd also give the bus a miss as on a Lancs day ranger ticket!

I can tell you it is just possible to walk from Burnley Central to Manchester Road in the 20-odd minutes you have between trains from Colne and to Hebden Bridge, it you step on it.
It gets a bit confusing round the shopping centre and the signs don't seem to help, but I did it once, street map in hand. The last bit is a bit of a puff uphill.

People run it down but I thought Burnley had some fine stone architecture.

Back before the economic downturn, there were quite serious plans for Manchester Rd station, including a booking office, building, new shelters and a clean-up. I doubt it will happen now.

Both, but the former is far more common.
