Hi,

Quick question today.

A few years ago now there was a programme, a documentry broadcast on the tv. Can't remember which side now.

It was a documentry where youths who had never worked a day in there lives had to work some tough jobs. I remember one week they worked on traveling funfairs, another they were steeplejacks and I think another week they worked in demolition.

I can't for the life of me remember what its called, I've tried searching some keywords on google and can't find anything. Its been racking my brain for a while now.

I don't suppose anybody on here remembers what it was called?

Cheers, hope you can help!

Heinz

There was ''Young, dumb and living off mum'' on BBC Three recently.

I've just done a search on Fairy Job Mother, it seems to recent, as Young Dum and Living off Mum.

I think it had something to do with difficult jobs and labour in the title.

Cheers

I've never seen either, but i have to give points for the Creative department that came up with the titles.

Was Sir Lord Sir Alan Sir Sugar behind it, by any chance?

Was it in the same series that they sent some layabouts to work picking fruit or vegetables on a farm alongside some permanent Polish workers? I can't remember the name of it, but it wasn't Fairy Jobmother, that was more about training people to succeed at job applications and interviews.

That sounds about right. I think we're on the right tracks

That programme was called 'The Day the Immigrants Left' and was only 2-3 years ago. Some local unemployed (and mostly frankly unemployable) people in Wisbech were given a chance to work in agriculture, food processing/packaging and the service sector. With one exception who went on to appear on a Newsnight debate on the subject they were uniformly useless, and many of them frighteningly stupid, which has to make you wonder if there is actually any solution to this problem other than trying to ensure that the next generation isn't like that. That won't be easy though if they're being brought up with the idea that work is something other people do. The notion that there are no jobs for locals in places like Wisbech was somewhat destroyed, although these are certainly not jobs I would want to do, and things are maybe different now that times are tougher. What must young Poles et al think when they see these slobs unable to do any sort of work?
