Thought a few people here would be interested in this.

The Road to Nowhere

Is a documentary on the M25 presented by Sally Traffic from Radio 2. It will be broadcast on BBC1 this Saturday at 17.10. It will only be available in East, London, South and South East.

From TVGuide.co.uk: ''Along the way, she meets people who were born on it, the team of workers responsible for keeping the road in working order, and a couple who managed to include it in their wedding ceremony.''

The secret life of motorways on BBC4 was very interesting. I wonder whether this programme will go in to as much social history.

I just wish I had kept a multi-page article in the Sunday Times from around 1973/4 when the Government were considering all the options for a new Motorway which would avoid London. Most of the proposals under consideration were rings, but I'm sure that there was at least one 'X' shaped proposal which went though the City (somewhere). It could be helpful to have retrospective perceptions and data to inform the projections that were made at the time, even it only assits future projects in evaluating their options.

Sadly, I didn't keep it, and I don't think I can access a corresponding report from the public domain of pre-internet documents.

Thank you!

(Didn't quite see the 'X' shaped option for the motorway on there, but it was a long time ago, and it was just some Fleet Street hacks (all from the days when newspapers were written and edited there, and who might have desperately invented anything to fill some column inches).

Well I'm out of area. I wonder what repeat they'll put on for us to watch in the W.Mids?

A repeat of the previous night's A Question of Sport is being shown in all the other regions.

Why does BBC South get the documentary? Nowhere in their transmitter area is within 40 miles of the road!

EDIT: Okay, slight exaggeration, Reading's only about 20 miles away by road, apparently. But the other end of the area, Weymouth, is 120 miles.

And even if they take the view that noone outside the area will be interested in it, why a repeat of something shown the day before. Lazy lazy programming.

Cambridgeshire is on East and Oxford is on South. I know they have a 20 Min news section, not sure what else is different.

It's only the evening news. It always annoyed me that when I lived in Leamington (BBC Midlands) the local news would never talk about Banbury, the next town over, but when I went back to Blandford (BBC South) it seemed to be all they ever talked about despite being a hundred miles away!
