Priv single validity - general query

Hi,

Today I purchased a priv single from Bridgend to Reading from the ticket office at Bridgend station. I noticed that the ticket is an Anytime Single and validity in the bottom right hand corner of the ticket states 'Two Days'. Is this normal for this type of ticket? I've bought it previously but hadn't noticed what the validity was.

Conversely, yesterday I purchased a ticket from the guard on a FGW service from Westbury to Bristol Temple Meads and was given an Anytime Day Single where the validity is for 'on date shown' only.

What determines whether an Anytime Day Single or Anytime single is issued for a given route and is an Anytime single always valid for two days? Is there any particular purpose for an Anytime to be valid for two days?

It's a recent change. Anytime Singles are now valid for two days; Anytime Day Singles are still only valid for one day. Anytime Returns (not Day) are valid for five days on the outward. (This is true of all Anytime fares, it's not connected with being Priv).

Is an Anytime return "return" leg still valid for 30 days or has that been cut down?

It's one calendar month, as before.

The Day/period availability is the same for singles as returns; as hairyhandedfool has said, Day tickets are the norm for shorter distances (and most journeys in the SE), and for longer distances period returns (and hence Anytime Singles) are available. For airport journeys period returns are generally additionally available.
