Technically QRB is staffed, the Gateline is in operation from 6:30-9:30am and sometimes from 4pm to 7pm too, so at least one Gateline staff will be there, if not also an RPI too!

OK - I think that would make it Isleworth - 800,000.

Many of the branch line customers are sold tickets from Advantix machines based at the nearest mainline station - so do tickets issued on these get allocated to station of origin or the mainline station?

Avantix tickets will still show where they were to/from. Sales from them go to a special code, so no Ticket Office gets the sales. This was the case even before Lennon.

Note that Refunds go to HQ. :D

But isn't the reopening of the ticket hall/cafe and barrier installation relatively new? Certainly they were not there in Spring this year, in which case given the age of the statistics (ie. before the installation) it is the busiest unstaffed station in terms of passenger numbers.

That's very true, a valid point until the next bunch of statistics are released!

AFAIK Queenstown Rd still isn't staffed - it has a gateline and ticket machine but no booking office from what I can see.

So your definition of "staffed" is if a station has a manned ticket office? I would still argue that QRB is staffed as the gateline is regularly manned during the peak times!

Staffed tends to mean has a booking office.

Do the gateline crew have ticketing powers the machines don't, eg Priv?

I'd say an unstaffed station is a station which has no staff at all. Picking something which has a manned barrier is at best trying to squeeze in a big number on a technicality.

If there are staff present (employed by the Toc) for whatever purpose then I'd say it is staffed, as the staff are there and available to provide customer service. There are many stations whose ''booking office'' consists of a mobile building and a person with an Avantix.

Gateline assistants do not have a ticket machine, only RPI's do, so if there is an RPI there with the Gateline assistant, then they can sell all tickets from their Avantix.

I think if there is a railway staff member there, it is staffed. The station has staff there! And cleaners etc... don't count.

A manned gateline definitely counts as staffed. Nobody stipulated a "manned ticket office".

QUOTE]

I wouldn't tell them that - especially if you just parked your car in the station car park.

What about bar staff ? - am thinking about Codsall or Urmston.

Actually that could be a sub thread - how many stations have no railway staff but have some kind of presence at the station.
