Hi all.

I've got to go Stretford in the morning but the problem is the journey back to Manchester and onwards. I'm off to a place called Eccleshall in the afternoon to see a North West Counties League football game.

I need to leave Stretford around 1145 and be in Stafford for 1330, ideally before on the 1215 from Picc to Stoke.

Will it be possible to get from Stretford leaving at 1145 to Manchester Picc to get there for 1215 and if not is the 1227 usually on time down to Stafford, I can't afford to miss the 1340 bus out of Stafford!

Tom

Not sure if this helps, but there are also buses from Stone to Eccleshall, at 1303 and 1401, (they also come from Stoke station at 1218/1321).

Beware - stop in Stone is 5 mins walk from Station

I think 30 minutes from Stretford to Piccadilly is certainly possible, but 30 minutes from arriving at Stretford Metrolink stop to boarding a train at Piccadilly? Tricky.

From reading the Metrolink home page there should be a tram at around 1246 (it is a 12 minute service to Piccadilly direct), however I can't find a journey time for the route, I'd estimate somewhere in the region of 20-25 minutes. That doesn't give you a lot of time to get up to the main station and find your train.

The Traveline journey planner gives the 1146 from Stretford arriving at Piccadilly's tram stop at 1204.

The 1215 to Stoke appears to be booked from platform five. So doable, if the tram is on time.

Does anyone know where to board the tram in order to be nearest the exit at Piccadilly Metrolink?

Trams run to a plus or minus 2 minutes timetable to try and keep trams equally spaced apart. So the tram might purposely wait at Altrincham for two minutes after it's scheduled departure time, then get delayed on route.

The doors nearest the middle should put you at the exit stairs. If you are quick off the mark you could try leaving the tram by the rearmost doors and heading for the lift at the rear of the inbound platform. That drops you on the main concourse opposite P5, cutting out a flight of stairs and two escalators.

I agree that it will be tight though!

Boarded the Bury service at 1143, got off at St Peters Square at 1154. Walked to Piccadilly Gardens, 4 minutes. 1159 got on a Piccadilly service, 1202 alighted. 1204 I was on Platform 5.

Eased it.

Maybe I walk slower these days than I used to, but I'd have been tempted to at least jog that to be sure to make it!!

The walk from St Peters Square to Piccadilly station would have taken me about 15 minutes if that, I'm a fast walker.. :)

Market Street to Piccadilly Gardens would be a much shorter walk, failing that if you get off at St Peters Square, you may as well walk straight to Piccadilly, if there are no trams due going direct.

This assumes there was no suitable interchange at Deansgate, which would be even easier.

Walking from Market Street to Piccadilly is often faster than the tram, allowing for the two stops, traffic and getting from the undercroft.
