He was a one off, there will never be another one like him. A true honest entertainer, what you saw was what you always got.

Often used to see him running along the Leeds Ring road near Roundhay park.
The amount he did for charity was phenomenal.

I'll remeber him for 3 things already mentioned - "This is the Age of the Train", Jim'll Fix It and his charity work, the latter in particular Stoke Mandeville Hospital, the name of this sticks in my mind from when I was a child.

As it happens guys and gals, Sir Jimmy Savile was truly unique, a real one off. Life will be a little bit less colourful without him. RIP.

Just remembered there was also his Sunday show he used to do on Radio 1 at dinner time from 12-2, when he would do a rundown of the top 10 from 3 years in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Always had that on at my grandparents.

I believe it was caleld 'Savile's Time Travels' or soemthing similar. I remembe rit well.

I've just checked Wikipedia (f it is to be believed!) and it was apparently called 'Jimmy Savile's Old Record Club'. I believe the 'Savilles Travels' name was used when he moved to independent radio.

Yeh I am rather gutted about his passing, when was it he stoped doing the London marathon - he was well into his 80's if I remember?

Only in so far as in his later he continued to wear the sort of clothes he had worn decades earlier. When any old person does that, they can look creepy.

I say well done to him for refusing to grow old!

A true legend, no one will ever come close to being as entertaining as him. I met him once in Skegness of all places and as well as being a born entertainer he was a true gentleman. May he rest in peace and God bless him.

British broadcasting Legend Indeed, RIP Sir Jimmy Savile, really shocked when i heard of his passing yesterday

A true British eccentric. He used to come through Aylesbury station every now and again on his way to Stoke Mandeville and I met him there several times. He always stopped to chat with the booking office staff. A very friendly chap.

I'll remember Jimmy for two things in particular:

#1 - nearly running him over by Scarborough Harbour, Boxing Day 1984. He stepped out in front of my car without looking
#2 - saw him in Flying Pizza, Street Lane, Roundhay about 3 years ago, looked very old

Yeah, I saw that too. Was quite a few years ago now.

I respected Jimmy for nothing more and nothing less than his insistence on living life on his own terms. He was certainly a one-off.

Terribly sad news.
The guy was one of life's true eccentrics, but with a huge heart. He did so much for so many.
The world is definitely a poorer place without him.
