Oh, here there and anywhere
Keeping everyone updated as to my progress through the process we have finally finished the rules book. OMG thank god for that as my head is ready to explode. Traction to go and then it'll be driving at long last. I can see why they leave single line working and pilotman working until last lol. More updates to follow if and when I make it through traction.

How many fail the rules /tration tests? The instructors want you to pass after all. Are all the resources there or are you expected to 'hunt' for certain information required to pass the tests?

What types are you learning as your core traction?

ML - All the information you need is in the rule book along with any hand outs the Driving school gives you. When I did my rules we were taken through them by discussing the rules, drawing diagrams if need be, power point stuff and the odd training video. We were also expected to read the book ourselves, there is an element of self teaching. We would cover a section of the book, go home and read it again, the next morning we would go over it between us and then ask questions to the instructors to clear up anything that wasn't crystal. As I recall we had a progress exam every 2 weeks or so.

It's pretty much exactly like that however we have had a competency test on each section.

My main traction is 170,156,158

Haha yeah that was hard to fathom out as an external candidate. Thats the logic of the railway - you cant have single line working on a single line:D:D

You also can't have Temporary block in Absolute block. This was a favourite of our rules instructor - to get one of us to draw out a diagram for TBW in an AB area. The git

Let's see if I can remember this.............Temporary Block Working can only take place in a T.C.B. area when 2 or more signals in sucession are defective.

Please dont deduct points if I havent qoted the book verbatim

Correct :)

Your train will be controlled by handsignallers at the entrance and exit. You will be issued a TBW ticket which will tell you the signals that are to be ignored. TPWS is temporarily isolated for running through the TBW area along with a maximum speed of 50mph.

I remember when I was on the rules course it was brake isolation (TW2) which used to confuse me. All the rising/falling gradients, first/last vehicle, bar coupling/parking brake used mess with my head. Thankfully we got an excellent diagram which explained it really well.

Heres one to ask your instructor about, "Driver can you confirm a glowing pot on approach to signal no. VC826..." didnt cover that during training :D
