Is this the right thing to do?

I spotted the inside cab door open on a 377 today. When I got off at Victoria I told a member of staff on the station and left her to sort it out. I'm not sure if anyone was in the cab at the time but is is a minor or major breach of safety?

I would of knocked to check but I didnt want to look like I was trying to get into the cab!

I will always report an insecure cab if I notice one.

I reported a MML 125 once leaving leicester on the opposite track to the station staff with the outer door open on the rear power car, with no one in and was thanked. they phoned though to the train to alert the train manager. there is also the risk of a vandal etc getting in on a signal check not to mention the mess in the cab if it starts to rain on route

The intermediate cab doors are often left open on 377s. Normally the second mans side as many of the locks are getting knackered so you lock them open after an attachment as as the train moves the door swings open as its a dodgy lock. Good idea to report it-I normally walk through attached portions to check before taking a train out.

Had one of the sliding doors of the cab between carriage sections this morning. It was the left side as you face the front. There didnt look like any important equipment in there so I'm not sure if they always leave that open? Is the drivers side on the right?

Left or right depends on whether it's the trailing cab of the lead unit or the lead cab of the trailing unit. It sounds like the one on the secondman's side. But regardless, that door should really be shut when running in multiple, but the hole in the floor that the catch sits in fills up with detritus so it doesn't always engage properly (even in the cab that's in service when the door should be locked open - then it keeps sliding open when you brake and shut when you take power - if I can't get it to lock I just stick my bag in the way as it gets very annoying very quickly!). There are a few switches on the non-drivers side (I'm being deliberately coy about what they do) but they require an EP key to operate. And if anyone did tinker with them, the driver would receive an immediate alarm via MITRAC.

But if you do find one of those doors unlocked, please let a member of the train crew know. Thanks.

It's happened to me several times on the Harrogate line where two units have been hooked up, I've only known because the door was physically open and swinging...and yes I did have a quick nosey!
