Found an interesting video for those who are into the APT. It's a video of some old timer giving a tour of the cab, quite an interesting video.

I was watching another video, a very much older video featuring pete waterman in his overalls. Talking about the APT and he said:

'They actually gave us this to get rid of it, because there were too many journalists taking pictures of it in a scrapyard, and we had to hide it for ten years, we had to physically hide it, so that nobody could see it. That was our part of the deal with British Rail, that nobody could see it'

It's sad to think that BR just wanted to brush this train under the carpet and forget about it.

Bill Andrew gave a drivers perspective on the use of all the numerous control items of the APT in such an informative manner, yet retaining the ease of manner that conveyed that he was talking personally to you during a visit, rather reminiscent of listening to Fred Dibnah. Thirteen minutes just flew by and I felt sorry when it came to the end as I had enjoyed it so much.

Does anyone know if Alstom/Fiat took a look at the APT before designing the Pendolino?

THere are features developed for the APT that have been used in every train since including the HST. These include the suspension and wheel profile, and much else that was all patented and earned royalties for BR.

THe rights to the tilt system were sold to Fiat.

That is the impression that I got when I watched the Peter Snow program 'Brits that brought you tilting Trains' which is on Youtube under the section DemandFive.

Those were also the days when BR was making money sending engineers out as consultants to railways all over the world.
