Hi all. Another (big) one for you.

Was looking at tickets from Bristol Temple Meads (BRI) - Walton-On-The-Naze (WON), going on the 25th, returning the 28th Nov. This will be routed via London Liverpool St. (LST) & London Paddington (PAD). However, there will be a stop off in London on the 28th for the day (late train back).

The best I've found is this (using YP Railcard):

15:30 BRI - WON via LST at 18:12 - Advance Single = £14.50

09:00 WON - BRI via PAD at 11:30 - Advance Single = £11.20

22:25 PAD - BRI - Advance Single = £6.55

Total = £32.25

This seems to work out better than getting the BRI - PAD - BRI Advance Singles & LST - WON - LST Off-Peak Returns separately (working out at about £40). And it seems to cover the transfer from PAD - LST (saving a couple of £ on the Oyster).

A bit more info:

On the Monday we will have YP Z1-6 Railcards as well (as we'll be travelling around London), if this helps in anyway.

If anyone can work this out with a PRIV (from London only), as well as a YP Railcard, I'd be grateful.

The routing is the best I've found but am happy for cheaper & longer.

Thanks again in advance. :D

A Super Off Peak Return from Bristol to Walton-on-the-Naze would be valid for all the times you want to travel and costs £38.30 with a railcard, only slightly more than the prices you found and you have much more flexibility.

Strictly speaking your second ticket is invalid as you are not allowed to end your journey early on an Advance ticket. What may happen in practice is another matter though...

Where are you getting that from mate? I can't seem to find that. (Not questioning the answer, just intrigued.) :)

Still £5 odd being saved, a lunch from M&S! ;)

Yeah, was unsure about doing it that way for that reason...

You will need two singles between London and Walton for PRIV. The Anytime Day Single costs £7.35 each way.

If you propose to finish your journey early at London on your second ticket then this is not permitted, in theory, as you are not allowed to finish short on an Advance ticket.

I meant the price for the Super Off Peak Return bb. :)

Cheers for the PRIV pricing!

Did know about the rules regarding Advance Tickets, but was unsure if it applied at all times.

Oh, dear. Hope I get it right this time. :D

It shows in Avantix as £58 undiscounted and £38.30 for 16-25 railcard holders.

It should be displayed at the top if you use a WebTIS-based engine, such as those used by East Coast, London Midland or Southern.

Ah cheers once again mate. Great help!

Great to know which sites use the "WebTIS" systems as well. :)

Sorry for bringing this up again.

Looking at the "rules" regarding Super Off-Peak Tickets, would I be able to use that ticket on services governed by these rules (e.g. No trains into London before 0930), even though it clearly seems allowed on the booking systems? :?

The restrictions on this ticket were posted above. Different Super Off Peak tickets will have different restrictions. On this ticket, there are no restrictions on the times you travel between Walton and London, only between London and Bristol.

If you have a (Super) Off-Peak ticket between a station in the former Network SouthEast area (eg. Walton-on-the-Naze) and a station outside the area via London, time restrictions only apply on the leg between the station outside the area and London. No time restriction applies to the leg between the station inside the Network area and London.

Not quite sure where you found those 'rules'? A Bristol to Walton-on-Naze ticket is not valid to depart Bristol Temple Meads until 0945, not 0930. There is an 0930 train but that is not valid, according to the restriction code for this ticket (Restriction 'XC'), if you are looking up the rules for a different Super Off Peak ticket, with a different restriction code, then be careful as each restriction code is different and you could be caught out.

The return portion is valid from London between 1010 and 1501, and from 1901.

There is no restriction on the London <> Walton-on-Naze leg of the ticket, because Walton-on-Naze is inside the 'Network Area' and Bristol Temple Meads is outside the 'Network Area' and the journey is via London.
