Just out of interest when do NR announce what works will be taking place over Easter?

Cheers

STP schedules should be uploaded by T-12, so beginning of January for the schedules. Search out the EAS or Engineering Access Statement on the NR site as that will state all the standard posession opportunities.

Incidentally, the 2013 Engineering Access Statements (EASs) are also all online now.

Anyone waiting patiently for a repeat of those FGW HST diversions via Banbury and the Chiltern route will be pleased to hear that they are happening again, but not until Easter 2013.

That is the next 'full closure' of the Reading Station area that lasts a few days. Other full closures occur overnight now and again, and on the Christmas Days and Boxing Days but that's when the railway is shut down anyway.

I suppose there will also be HST's going through Basingstoke and into Waterloo?

They aren't mentioned - but that doesn't mean much because they weren't actually shown in the 2011 rules of the route (predecessor of the EAS) last time either, they must have been a relatively late decision.

I read in the press recently that cable thiefs are using engineering announcements to plan 'jobs', not much we can do about that though, since the travelling public need to know about these things in advance..
