Bonfire night problems

Do the railways ever suffer bonfire night related problems (not including overcrowding for events)

Well, theres a large Bonfire/fireworks display next to the railway line as part of the Lewes celebrations, dont recall any problems with it before though.

Not really any more than any other customer service business, unexploded fireworks, drunken idiots trying to showoff and as mentioned, crowds from events.

Nothing really untoward.

What would happen if some idiot threw a firework into a train and it exploded? Are there firealarms etc in there?

Got aggravated by a drunk at Hastings today... Heavy BTP presence at Hastings and St. Leonards WS.

I've had fireworks in the 4ft recently.

Bobby cautioned a couple of services in each direction and advised BTP. Delay to my service was about 6-7 mins.

It is important for drivers to remain focused on the job anyway, but I suppose there is a higher chance of a Cat A SPAD caused by distraction...

I seem to remember reading a Rocket belonging to a Mr. George Stephenson was unfortunately involved in a fatality to a Mr. William Huskisson at Parkside, but that was some 7 weeks before Bonfire Night in 1830.

*groan* . you do get some planks that want to cause trouble and will use any excuse to do so, i was delayed between donny and lincoln about 3 or 4 years ago because some bozo was shooting rockets at passing trains. just out of interest would a petrol tanker have issues ( like explosion or fire) due to some chump indulgeing in the above activity?

If you read the rest of the postings you would also have seen how the poster who claimed the train had "disintegrated" also claimed that 305s were being ordered to replace it. Many other posters dismissed this somewhat...

I'd expect it would have to be a decent sized rocket to do that much damage to a train exterior or petrol tanker. Worst damage I've seen is a phone box where the windows had been blown out.

Well a rocket can go off in someones face and not kill them so i strongly doubt it could do that much damage to a train...

Looking at the crash on the M5 isnt there a railway track that goes under the M5?.
Surely the police should be asking any TOC or freight company if there drivers noticed anything when going past the Rugby club around that time.

This was more to do with the lad being drunk/high though, so it could be argued that it could have happened any night of the year.

That incident seems to of happened before the slammers were replaced, so its very unlikely something like that would happen now.

Ive seen fireworks thrown at Kirkby trains in Pemberton thats about it to be honest.

If the accident had been a few yards further north there would probably have been a line closure too!!
