Lewes Bonfire Additional Trains ??

Evening all,

Just looking on the LDB out of boredom and noticed that there are a few "additional" trains serving Lewes tonight, even though it was said there was to be no additional trains for Lewes Bonfire. The additionals are -

19.53 and 20.15 Eastbourne to Haywards Heath

20.20 and 20.37 Lewes to Brighton

Are these actual services operating ? Services to/from London are also shown as making stops at Cooksbridge, which isnt usually open on Saturdays.

The services did run. 1953 ex Eastbourne was worked by 377148 & 377473, 2015 ex Eastbourne by 377139 & 377414.

2020 ex Lewes by 377315 and 2037 ex Lewes by 313220.

Services calling at Cooksbridge between 1848 & 2329 only.

Posters were up at Lewes advising of these extra trains.

Just had another look, and there is a 23.24 running non-stop from Lewes to Redhill, a 23.22 Hastings to Worthing service and a 00.45 non-stop service from Lewes to Worthing.

There are a lot of additional late night ones too, which weren't advertised - perhaps not to encourage people who don't live in Lewes to go.

Just had another check again got another non-stop from Lewes to Worthing at 01.30, a non-stop Lewes to Three Bridges train at 01.34 and a non-stop Lewes to Eastbourne at 01.50

The Lewes - Worthing trains were not non-stop and called at Brighton, Hove, Portslade, Shoreham, Lancing & Worthing.

There are a lot of additional late night ones too, which weren't advertised - perhaps not to encourage people who don't live in Lewes to go.

CORRECT!.... Local council don't want lots of attendees, in fact they frequently warn that they will cancel 'next' years event as its getting too busy... Trains shown as non stop because they are Set Down only at intermediates - for the same reason.

Shame they can't get a bigger space to host the display. How many does Lewes get, anyway?

Lewes got 60,000 attending this year with about 30,000 coming by train - the Council think that the numbers were higher as it was a Saturday and the weather wasnt too bad.

The event is a procession through the small streets of Lewes town centre, then it branches off to 5 (possibly more) sites around the town for a big bonfire and a fireworks display.

The firework display at Kempton Park also got big crowds, it always does. The only problem is the local train company, did not cater for this as they only run 4 coach trains at the weekends on the inner suburban trains, in spite of there being plenty of passengers travelling on Sats and Sundays anyway, they could therefore run 8 coaches at weekends as they do weekdays and not have the hassle of splitting and rejoining trains on Friday & Sunday nights, or whenever they do the uncoupling & VV.

Ah, sounds similar to the Rye Bonfire with regards to the procession, bonfire and then the fireworks. It's a good night but I don't think it quite has the same crowds as Lewes. Think Southern will be running extra's for that this Saturday coming.

Not sure about extras but the service will be split - BTN to HGS and HGS to AFK with four cars over the marsh.
