For something different, what alcohol drinks have you tried and hated or tried and actually discovered you liked it?

I've tried Gin and Tonic and wasn't a fan of it - reminded me too much of fizzy water which I hate.

I've tried Disarrono with Cola recently and Ouzu with Chilled Water (Which is how I believe the Greeks have it) and to my surprise I actually like the stuff.

What about you guys, care to share your fellow discoveries?

Martinis. I liked gin and tonic, so had some gin in and Picked up some vermouth.

My perfect Martini

50ml measures Plymouth Smooth English Gin
15ml Extra Dry Vermouth or 25ml Bianco Vermouth
Shake in an ice-filled Cocktail Shaker until very cold, so that the gin seems to 'thicken'
Taste and adjust the ratio of Gin and Vermouth if needed.
Serve in a Glass (either a Martini Glass or a Wine Glass)
Garnish with a Black olive on a cocktail stick.

Cinnamon Whiskey (Firewater) & Apple Juice, tried it a few months ago at Wetherspoons, lovely warm aftertaste but never seen the Whiskey in the local supermarkets

Cider - only the extra dry stuff, tried some at Manchesters Winter Ale festival a few years ago by some small Welsh (??) company, kept in old Bowmore whisky barrels iirc

Ouzo - tried it once at a greek themed night at the Uni bar/disco, awful, though I suspect the headache next day was plate related (however did that one get past H&S I'll never know?)

Brandy - it's ok on christmas pudding, much less so in a glass

Asda do it or at least my asda does.

Fireball and cream soda is nice as is red aftershock and cream soda unsurprisingly since both are cinnamon.

Most of the cocktails in wetherspoons are good

I found out that 8 pints of Amstel then a few double Captain Morgan's and coke = not good the night before you've got 200 miles of train travel and the WCML is caped!

Captain Morgan's + Coke does go down pretty easily lol :D

I am partial to a G & T, particularly if its the summer. I'm also partial to a Bloody Mary because it's a bit like a very spicy tomato soup, however other than that, it's ale for me.

No longer here
G and T is my poison of choice, along with Guinness. Yum! Also partial to whisky and Coke on the rocks.

Ouzo and tequila - both horrible!

Absinthe is pretty good...if you know how to take it. Cheeky Vimtos are also pretty good if your aim is to get utterly smashed...

Jim Beam whisky sour is my main one, price of the rest puts me off (plus half the time you can never tell if it is decent spirits they are selling).

Apart from that it is beer and cider for me.

Can't say I've been brave enough to try Absinthe

I have, both other ice and once 1/3 absinthe, 1/3 sambuca and 1/3 aniseed liqueur. Never again!

Rekorderlig Cider is nice too (and I've still not got even a drop on Virgin lol)

That and the mystery black drink at download 09 which was a mix of virtually everything going

I really like Belgian beers-some are quite superb, and the flavours often more complex than English ales. Two I especially like are Rodenbach Grand Cru, a sour Flemish red, wonderfully refreshing, and St Bernardos 12, rich, dark, fruity and warming.

And from Latvia, the Riga Black Balsam both tastes and smells delightful

I discovered Purple WKD, courtesy of some very drunk women on a late-night Class 185 who were for no apparent reason mixing Red WKD with Blue WKD.

I've done that at a party before (as well as fortifying it with more vodka), long before purple WKD officially came out. I didn't like it as much as it's component parts though. It was thanks to WKD that I found out that Irn Bru is a good mixer for vodka.

Smirnoff Vanilla is good too, especially with coke

Absinthe is worryingly drinkable and delicious.

And there's a bar in Leamington that sells double measures of it for £3.

Makes me glad I don't drink any more.

You're lucky! I haven't found a bar around Exeter which does shots of absinthe.

However, whenever I've tried drinking absinthe neat, it tastes foul; it's necessary to drink it with sugar or another sweetener to make it pallatable. I haven't tried that yet, but there are ways of mixing it with sugar like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-k0e4FawyQ&feature=related

Other 'poisons of choice' include Finlandia vodka (especially the Grapefruit flavour) and scrumpy of any kind. After all, anything's better than the **** known as Strongbow or 'Olde English' cider

Absinthe tastes like hot toothpaste. Aftershock (all flavours) taste rather medicinal and rank. I've not really touched shot-delivered spirits much since I was a student/Apprentice. Messy times.

Sling a dash of lime cordial in a glass with ice, double measure of spiced rum, top up with Coke, lovely.

Normally any Continental lager will do me. I'll occasionally delve into ale but frankly, I'm not the sort of person to extract the perverse pleasure some do from ale.

The ultimate xmas classic tipple Whiskey Mac, any blended Whiskey and stones ginger wine with a couple of rocks of ice, nice and warming on a cold winters night.

Irn Bru goes particularly well with Smirnoff's Rasberry Vodka.

I quite like a good Absinthe. There's plenty of rubbish about, though.

Aftershock I avoid with a passion - seems to give me a blinding hangover even if I only have one.
