I watched the verdict live on Sky as I was interested in the process, however I have to say I felt a little uneasy watching the defendant the very moment the he was found guilty.

I can't believe that the judge refused him bail on the grounds that he'd be a danger to others. He's a Doctor FFS, albeit, no Dr Shipman...

And the whole handcuffs thing is just humiliating when someone has acted with dignity. If they were screaming and shouting I could understand.

He's been found guilty of manslaughter. He's not going to be treated like the Queen! If he didn't want to be humiliated (any court case in which you lose is humiliating!) then as a cardiologist he shouldn't have been messing around with anaesthetic drugs.

Not just manslaughter - but involuntary manslaughter. Admittedly I don't know if the terms are very different in the USA, but if they aren't then that's baloney.

I don't think he ever had a fair chance. I did some brief research, and with the information available to me in the public domain he shouldn't have gone down guilty. He was hanged by the media, as seems to be the way these days.

Involuntary manslaughter, in the US, seems to be murder without the malice. It consists of two parts, unlawful act manslaughter, and criminally negligent manslaughter.

He's probably been prosecuted with criminally negligent manslaughter by way of recklessness.

(I'm not too hot on US/Californian law, so this may be bollocks!)


Conrad Murray paid the price for prescribing powerful anaesthesia-inducing drug, as a cardiologist, outside the hospital setting and with no proper monitoring equipment. I'm afraid I disagree with you there, Pumbaa, that is negligent.

In a word, no. I couldn't care either. But by saying as much, there will probably be the usual "Don't interfere in threads you don't care about" argument.

I find the whole idea of trials, Celebrity trials certainly, being in the public domain rather dubious; surely all the publicity can't do anything but potentially prejudice things? I suppose there may be arguments for the public to be able to see that it's conducted in a legal & above board way, but really, can they really be absolutely certain that there's no influence from Public opinion? Same with that Amanda Knox affair; the way that the Media were absolutely certain that she was guilty (and some of them [tries hard not to mention D**** M***] I'm sure still do think so).
