Brighton is always a good place to go, plenty to do there, although the Volks Railway is shut for the winter, and the aquarium is closed for renovation. There's plenty to see if you wander around the town and along the sea front, plenty of bars pubs and restaurants, and the pier is open all year as is the Royal Pavilion, which I will probably visit if the weather's not good. A plusbus ticket might be a good option also - see the remains of the Daddy Longlegs Railway at Ovingdean although there's only a line of concrete blocks to show where it ran. Or if you were feeling energetic and you do a bit of research you could trace the route of the branch to Devils Dyke (don't know if plusbus goes that far out though).
I had hoped top do a sewer tour but it looks like they only do them in the summer.

I've already been planning to go to Brighton (before this offer in fact); I've got a couple of audio walks I downloaded a while ago.
Would you be able to get a plusbus on top of a complimentary ticket?

Yes, you have a valid travel ticket
For example, it's the only DOO service SET operate.
Come again? Most Dartford services are DOO I thought.
How did I miss that comment first time? Indeed, in fact all SET Metro services are DOO as far as I know, except when they chuck in a few RPIs.

Planning on using the Free First Capital Connect ticket tomorrow night Kings X to Cambridge Return and just noticed this on the National Rail Information on Cambridge Station:

When you travel without a ticket or without a valid ticket.
If you have a correctly filled in and sealed complimentary ticket, you won't be charged a penalty fare as you have a valid ticket.

Thanks for that Brucey - just didn't want to get caught by something in the small print. Both services I'm on are First Capital Connect services in the timetable:
19:15 London Kings Cross to Cambridge (No Change - Fast train arrives 20:08
22:28 Cambridge to London Kings Cross (No change - Fast Train arrives 23:31
You can't get a PF with one of these cards, unless you wait until to see you an RPI and quickly scratch/seal the card then!

I'm planning to do Finsbury Park - Cambridge and also West Hampstead - Bedford (combined with a bit of Thameslink core thrown in!) on Saturday. One question though, will BoJ etc be allowed using these as per NRCoC?

Everyone on here AFAIK has said 'yes', but nobody has reported back saying they've tried it and it's worked! Technically they're Anytime tickets and subject to the NRCoC which states that the restriction would be written on the ticket if they wanted to enforce it... but we all know what some FCC gateline staff are like!
I've broken my journey at both Stevenage and East Croydon without problem.
On one occasion it was checked quite closely, but nothing was said.
I went to Stevenage once (just as somewhere to go). It looked pretty dire...at least the part where I was. I didn't stay there long.
I used to visit Croydon quite a lot, when I lived in London, for the shops.
I used my free tickets on a Sunday, so I wonder if they'd be more interested if you were using one in the peak? There's no restriction, but they could still get quite funny and invent new rules.
Most RPIs are good though, thankfully. The problem is you don't know who you'll meet at any given time (although most stations now have fairly regular staff so you do get to know them over time).

OK, I think I'm going to go back to Ely and Cambridge (there's a few things I didn't get to see before, or wouldn't mind seeing again), Brighton and Peterborough (for the cathedral; there's also a museum I'm interested in, but it's closed atm.

Having said that Old Stevenage is more pleasant - but quite some distance away from the station and new town.
I can get to/from Stevenage on my EC-only season but have only done it once since February - to go to a 60th birthday party.

When living in Dublin and working in a bank, I had Tootingbec1 as a password and would increase the number each month as I had to change it.
I once had reason to give a summer student from Limerick my password to access some system or other and it took me a few goes over the phone explaining the password to him. When I got back to the office I changed all passwords similar to that one.
Fast forward 6 weeks and he has got his emergency tax rebate and takes the girlfriend to London for the weekend. He had been wondering of things to do, places to see and saw Tooting Bec on the tube map and decided to head out there, see what had made me interested.
He was less than impressed and complained to me on the Monday. If only he had told me, I could have advised him that there is very little there!

Used mine last night (was going to be tonight) - Kings X to Cambridge return. No problems - guy on barrier didn't even look at the ticket when he opened the barrier for my bike - same at Cambridge and no ticket checks on the train. A good night was had (apart from the drizzle) and the first of a few visits I think - I can recommend The Elm Tree and The Cambridge Blue as great decent ale friendly oubs - met a few nice people last night!
