So, just after two DMU's have left the line, the Mid Hant's has an appeal and offer of the South Devons Class 127 / Bedpan unit.

Details Here:

http://www.watercressline.co.uk/News/Latest/View/723

And for those not in the know, the 117 and 122 / W55003 were both sold to the Cotswold Diesel Railcar Ltd at Toddington (GWSR) This year in a move where the original owners, due to commitments on other projects / lines, and whilst both units were offered to the Mid Hants, there was reportedly very few with any knowledge of the mechanics of the two - Where as the GWSR does - That's the best description of the situation i can come up with at the moment!

Be pleased to see the Bedpan go to a good home. It's been sitting on a disconnected siding at Totnes for a while. I was mildly surprised when they got rid of all their DMUs, since surely they'd be useful.

(More useful than that Parry People Mover thing that they were going to try out, but went wrong; what happened to that, by the way, I wonder?)

Who Knows - Though the PPM 50 Thing was more of a trial involving GO-CO, PPM, Hampshire County Council & the Mid Hants, but since it's break problems, it seems to have disappeared back up to the West Mids factory where it came from...As for the Mid Hant's gaining the Bedpan - In a way, id be slightly disappointed for two reasons, 1 - Ive never really been much a fan of the Bedpans, with there almost monotone sounds to them...But also 2, Now that the DMU service has had to be replaced, why not use the Thumper more? Afterall, they have more of a historial heritage than say W55003? But at least it'll be closer to home than in deepest South Devon, and be able to be used as a DIESEL service back up (If the Thumpers out of action, Bring out the 33 instead!)

Hate to say it, but 1st gen dmmu's have more general public appeal than a Thumper Hampshire unit, the fore and afterend views are what they want.

True, and unfortunatly as there was no Thumper's in Thomas The Tank Engine / Thomas and Friends, then as much as the Mid Hants's 205 is green, it's not really a Daisy as much as the 122 was.

But, as it's sat there down in Totnes rotting away, i suppose i have to wish good luck to them, but considering the differences underneath compared to the 117/122 and the mid hants reputation and attitudes towards Diesels, combined with an apparent unserviceable engine, i hope they have got someone who know's what there doing!

hmmm,

free to a good home needs a little TLC... sounds too good..

Hope they know that a 127 is nothing like a 117 underneath and they will need some heavy lifting equipment to swap out that engine. Still would be nice to see another 127 return to action.

Good luck...

Though looking at the website maybe just the MHR bit?

The plans for the PPM on the MHR continue and it is due to start soon under another organisation "Lightweight Community Transport Ltd". See http://www.lctltd.co.uk/
