One day travelcards and advances and what happens if major delays happen?

Hi all

I am off to London tomorrrow and am wondering, if I had a major delay on one route (e.g. Thameslink) uaing a 1 day z1-6 tc and I had a advance ticket for another service, if because of the delay I miss my train that the advance is on, what would happen? (e.g. I had to change from St Pancras to Euston and in my plan I had allocated 82 minutes to do that connection but a signal failed at say on the approach to St Pancras?)

If you are delayed on a train connecting with an advance then try to get your ticket endorsed or some other official notification of the delay (eg headed compliments slip). Providing the scheduled connection was valid you should be allowed to travel on a later train with your advance ticket. The water is slightly muddied if the delay is to an underground train, but in the scenario you mention, or if another National Rail train was involved before the Underground train, you should have no problems. It is important to get the delay acknowledged by the TOC responsible if possible because TMs on long distance trains may not be aware of local difficulties elsewhere in London.

Looking at your location I'm assuming that the advance is to get you home, so a refund of that ticket is not really going to help you.

You can see if its a valid connection by looking at any booking site, or National Rail Enquiries.

Some interchange times are shown on page 44 of the NRT, including all the London termini. St Pancras <> Euston is 38 minutes. It's quicker to walk than take the tube.

When exiting from the Thameslink platforms, after getting to the top of the escalator and passing through the barriers, look to your right and you will see an exit. Turn right, then immediately left along Brill Place, then Phoenix Road. Walk takes 9 mins (allow extra time to get to/from platform) according to Google maps. The tube wil take longer as it's a very long walk from the Thameslink platforms (it was a lot quicker in the days of Kings Cross Thameslink) and you will walk almost as far as the walk between the two stations along Brill Place/Phoenix Road. If you take Euston Road, that's more like 15 minutes walk.

Full time result: Managed to do the connection with 51 minutes to spare (with tea in hand from the Kings takeaway (opp KGX)) after doing a +3 at Bedford.
